hey there delilah,

i saw a girl today who reminded me of you. she had long, wavy auburn hair, similar to yours, and she was wearing a flower print dress. there was a cup of coffee clutched in her hands, which is mostly what reminded me of you.

(we all know that if we cut you open, delilah, you would bleed coffee with two spoons of sugar and one gargle of french vanilla creamer)

she looked up at me and waved. i waved back. it made me sad that she thought i was attracted to her. i couldn't be attracted to anyone but you, delilah. besides, her eyes were blue. your's are like a kaleidoscope, always changing with the light, which is much more beautiful, in my opinion.

i hate michigan. it's so ugly. it's hard for me to believe that i could hate any state more than i hated wisconsin, but i do. i want to go back to california, but that's so far away now, and i can't go backwards. only forwards, my dear delilah. hopefully one day going forwards takes me to you.

i sat down again to write your song. i wrote the guitar part. it's sad and it's sweet, just like you.

love always from detroit.
