Aubrey's POV:
I had been running as fast as I could for almost 20 minutes. I had no idea where I was and I was getting tired. What was the point of having us run in the woods if we could just use the track behind school?! Three girls and two guys had already tripped on the uneven terrain. We were so far out that we hadn't gotten to stop and rest and I was falling behind. I hadn't noticed how utterly alone I was. I, stupidly, turned around and immediatly had no idea which way I came. I couldn't even hear my team.
Sighing, I made my way to waht I thought was the edge of the forest. I couldn't help but think of my warm bed as the wind blew. My mom said that she was making cookies today to celebrate my dads promotion. They might still be warm if I hurried. I would have to beat my oder brother Jamie though. He was a 20 year old bottomless pit and I'm sure that after a month of only eating the food around his college campus he would be starving for moms cooking.
Looking up I noticed that it had gotten darker. Sam was going to kill me. I had promised her a ride home after my run. I can already hear her bad best friend speach, "Really Aubrey, I can't believe that after all these years you could just toss me aside like blah, blah, blah..." I would probably be doing a lot of groveling for this. I'd probably also need a hair cut, since my waist, black locks were getting pulled from my pony tail by branches. My pale arms were also sporting some nasty scrapes, along with goose bumps- Why did Virginia have to get so cold in October?! With a huff I finally broke free from the forest and stepped towards a road.
Playing eenie meenie minie mo I turned left and continued on. Sadly I realized that I had chosen wrong when I came across the sign that said "Now leaving Nicklesville, Virginia. Come back soon!" Turning around I realized that while I had been contemplating my failure a truck had pulled up behind me. Carefully walking towards it I tapped on the window to ask for directions. the windows were tinted so when no one answered I put my forhead agains the window and wrapped my hands around my face so I could see better. Suddenly I couldn't breath and everything went black.
