I woke up with a start, sitting up in bed my eyes wide, my mum's name on my lips. I had dreamed of their death again. The night of the car crash, I didn't remember much of it but I do remember her face as she hugged me to her, shielding me as the car flipped over. She had saved me that night, but it resulted in the death of both her and dad. I climbed out of my bunk bed trying to make as little noise as possible, but I could already hear the breathing of the other people in the dormitory, I sensed that they were already awake and waiting for me. I walked out of the room not making any suggestions that I knew that they were awake.

I made my way into the bathroom and wet my face and stared into the mirror. My long light blonde hair hung below my shoulders standing out brightly in the grey background of the bathroom. My blue eyes stared back at me as though they were someone else's, I blinked and my iris expanded into those of a wolf's. Then suddenly they were gone with the next blink. With my heightened hearing I heard sounds outside the bathroom. About six people were heading towards me. I turned back to the mirror and pretended I was splashing water on my face when the door opened again. I turned around to face the person and tense as the punch hit me on my cheek, it didn't hurt but I still feigned to stumble back.

I looked up at my new bully, a big girl with a squished up face and freckles. I just wanted to squish her face up even more with my own fist. But I wasn't allowed to get into any more fights, otherwise yet again I'll be moved to another orphanage. When squishy face made another sloppy swing towards me I watched in slow motion as it came, this time I made a slight movement backwards and the punch swung straight past me. She looked at her hand bewildered. I already knew that I could've flipped her, making her back snap as she landed on the ground but I stopped myself and instead I started to walk out of the bathroom. As I passed I stuck my foot out and swung her legs out from underneath her, I heard the most satisfying crunch as her face met the cold dirty tiled floor.

As I walked out I stopped in my tracks as I met the eyes of her followers who were standing outside the door ready to cheer their leader on, obviously squished face wanted to come out a hero. Instead I came out without a single scratch, I smirked at them and all their eyes widened. I kept walking towards my room, I didn't think I'll have another bully problem after that. I made my way outside of the building, it was 5:30 in the morning so I didn't think there was anyone around to stop me. I walked to the middle of the road and once I was out of view from the orphanage I jogged into the forest beside the road. It was a pine forest and as soon as I entered I started changing. White fur started sprouting from my skin and my clothes began to rip as my body changed and running in my place was a beautiful wolf.

"I'm happy you think that," my wolf spoke in my mind.

"I'm glad you're here, why didn't you say anything before?" I asked her back.

"Well it looked like you were handling things just fine, I just wish you squished her face a tiny bit more," she growled. I laughed.

"Nah, I'd just be kicked out again." We were silent after that as we kept running, just enjoying each other's presence. The first time I found out I was a werewolf was when I was 16, I started to change in the middle of class and I ran outside and into the forest, yes there is always a forest near wherever I was placed. Any foster home, any orphanage it was convenient and mainly sheer luck. I guessed I just had a mysterious link to forests wherever I went and people around me seem to be affected by it as well. My first change into a wolf was the most painful experience I could ever imagine and I was glad no one heard me as howls and screams ripped through the air. I even fainted half way through and when I came too people were surrounding me and a new voice was in my head. I was labelled a troubled child after that experience and was never adopted. But at least I had gained a friend and I'm never alone now.

I suddenly stopped as a sweet sent hit me and I heard the sound of padded feet running through the forest in the distance. Slowly I crept uphill towards the sweet scent, my soft pads making no noise as I made my way through the low bushes. Ahead there was a wolf being chased by 5 other wolves. They couldn't catch my scent since I was downwind, the breeze in my favour. They were werewolves. The biggest of the pack attracted my attention the most as that sweet scent emanated from him. His wolf was gorgeous, it's fur black with a few silver streaks running along its back. Ever since I changed at 16 I found out about werewolves. The past two years I had been able to talk to one or two who called themselves rogues and they taught me about how there were 'packs' all around the world. Borders separated each of them and they all had different rules. I was warned by those rogues to keep away from them and I have ever since.

"mate," my wolf suddenly whispered inside my mind. I jumped with a start as the black wolf caught the hind leg of the running wolf. It whined and tumbled onto the ground. A large grey wolf rippling with power walked forward and ripped the throat of the poor lone wolf killing it in an instant. I shivered at the terrifying sight. Why did they do that? My wolf tried to make me move forward and meet with the black wolf but I held her back not understanding a word she was saying.

It was too dangerous, especially after seeing that incident. I thanked my luck for being downwind as my scent didn't even  reach the small pack. I stayed where I was, I was good at being as silent as a ghost. I waited until they were gone, my wolf whining the whole time. Once they were gone I silently turned back to the orphanage, but almost instantly when I walked out into the open another wolf was in front of me, a girl this time. With golden brown fur her eyes twinkling as she watched me. For some reason I kind of new she wouldn't harm me, I gave her a slight nod and ran in the direction of the orphanage. I heard her start to follow me but I was too fast for her. I heard her come to a stop, but I kept going. I turned back into my human form and changed into a spare set of clothes which I had set out hidden in some bushes the other day. My mind kept thinking back to that dark black wolf, maybe I might even meet him again.

"Oh, you will," my wolf replied mysteriously.
