Heyy guys! As you know, I recently relapsed. I'm in a better state of mind, so I decided to give you guys an update, so here it is.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I woke up the next morning to my alarm on my phone, turning it off before it wakes up Demi. It's only 5:30, but that's the price you gotta pay to be on a Division 1 state champion softball team. It's a lot earlier than normal for me to be awake, but at least I'm in a better mood. Today was the first day of softball practice. Being a sophomore and Varsity team captain, I'm usually the first one to practice and the last one to leave. All of the seniors on my team hate me, because I'm captain and it's their "right, and only belongs to them." Yeah, okay guys, let's not make your ego any bigger. I get out of bed without waking Demi, put on some sweatpants on, with shorts, a tank top and a hoodie. I throw on my boots since my cleats are in my bag already, and throw my hair into a messy bun. I don't wear make-up so I just brush my teeth, I'll shower after practice. After leaving Demi a note telling her to text me when she gets up, I head out to my truck. Yes, I'm a girl and I drive a pick up. Don't judge.
After getting my bag from the bed of my truck, I head to the field. It's behind our high school with a private parking lot. Our baseball team was just finishing up their practice. Yes! Just in time. As I'm walking to the dugout, I pass Luke, my crush since 5th grade. We're both sophomore varsity captains.
"Hey Kenzie." Luke says with his signature half smile. SOO HOT!!
"Hey Luke. how was practice? Ready to whip these boys into shape and get back into the grind of things?" I ask. His eyes are a grey-blue. Did I mention how hot he is?? No? Well he's pretty damn sexy.
"Hell yeah. We're gonna lift with you guys this year. Coach Taylor actually wanted me to talk to you about it. Would it be okay if we lifted with you girls this season?" He asks with a pleading look in his eyes. Coach Taylor gets what Coach Taylor wants. It's just a way of life, so there's no use in arguing.
"Yeah, I'm perfectly okay with that. Let me clear it up with Coach Chris today and I'll text you later. I'm sorry, Luke but I gotta go." I say turning back to the field.
"Okay. Talk to you later K." He says before walking back to the parking lot.
I quickly slip off my hoodie and sweatpants and get my cleats on. Coach Chris is already in his spot, as my catcher. We're the only two here so far, and I don't think we'll get the whole team here today. I get onto the mound, being on the field again makes me happy. It's the only place I can let all my anger out. I love it. I throw a few pitches to Chris and notice half the team is here. Awesome. (note the sarcasm) I get the team started with stretches and talk to Christ about the boys lifting with us, of course he agrees. He's the best coach ever. We do some drills, catch whatever kinds of balls Chris throws/hits at us, and practice actually runs smoothly - until we do our two laps around the field at the end of practice.
"Retard" I hear one of the seniors say to a junior that had tripped rounding third.
Oh hell no. That shit doesn't fly on this team.
"Matthews! Front and center!' Chris yells as I stop my second lap. I'm glad he heard her. I'm basically finished anyway, so I walk to the dug out.
"Yeah coach?" she asks innocently.
"If i hear you say that word anymore, you're off this team! That is a very offensive word, not only to me, but some of your other team-mates too. Do you understand?" his voice is dangerously low. I've never seen him this angry.
"Yes coach." she says, looking terrified.
"Four more laps around the field. Now." he says to her.
The rest of us are already on our way to the parking lot by the time she finishes. I'm sweating a lot, but I still need to do my morning run. I get to my truck, change from cleats to tennis shoes and grab my phone and headphones. I check my phone and find a new text from Demi. I'll just see her on an hour, she'll be fine until then. I go for my run, a different route than normal since my truck is at the high school. About an hour later i'm on my way home. I live a block from my school, so i'm home in less than a minute. Definitely a bonus when I'm running late for school. I get out, grab my bag, and walk up the driveway. I walk in the house and find Demi up and eating breakfast, looking at the clock I find it's already 11:30.
"Morning Dem." I say while walking closer to her. I havem't showered and I'm still sweating. I grin evily at her.
"Morning K. Where were you?" she asks while giving me a look of pure confusion. I hug her.
"Practice then my morning run. Don't I smell amazing?" I ask, chuckling at the little squeal she lets out.
"You smell like shit Kenz. Go take a shower and I'll make you some breakfast. Next time, a text back would be nice." she says as she gets up to make my food. I run upstairs, "USE SOAP TOO KENZ!" she yells to me. I chuckle a little to myself. I plug my iPod into the speakers I have in my bathroom, and blast Imagine Dragons' "Demons. " I hop in the shower wash my body and hair and shave. I can't seem to put the razor down, though. I know what's coming next.
Don't do it
Do it McKenzie. You know you want to. You need to.
Don't do it, think of Makayla. What if she saw you doing this? What would she think?
That was enough to get me to put the razor down, ignoring the voices. I get out of the shower, throw on some sweats and a hoodie, and go downstairs. Demi is sitting at the table, looking up as I walk in.
"Hey, I made you some food." she says, standing up. Wait, why is she standing up? "I don't want to do this Kenz, but from seeing them a few days ago, I need to know." she says. She grabs my arm and lifts my sweatshirt sleeve, a relieved sigh escaping her lips. She smiles at me, kissing my head and telling me to eat.
When I finish eating, Demi puts down her phone.
"Whatcha wanna do today kiddo? I have the next few months off to completely focus on my baby sister. Wanna just sit and watch movies?" she asks, taking my plate to the sink.
"Sure, you go pick the movies, I'll grab the snacks." I say. She goes into the living room, so I grab some popcorn and put it in the microwave. I grab two bottles of water from the fridge, put the popcorn in a bowl, and take it to the living room. I find Demi on the couch underneath a blanket, only lifting it up so I can sit next to her. We watched tons of movies, only getting up to go to the bathroom and get more popcorn. I look at the clock and see its almost 9:30. I should be getting to bed since I have practice again tomorrow morning. Did I mention tomorrow is Sunday? I hate Sunday morning practices. They're the worst.
"Hey, Dem? I'm gonna go to be-" I look at her and she's asleep. I chuckle, turning off the T.V. and go upstairs. I lay down, but I'm wide awake.I lie there for hours, just staring at the ceiling. I open my window, grab my guitar, and sit out on the roof. I do this every time I can't sleep. I start strumming my favorite song. Humming until I get to the chorus, then just belt it out, not caring that it's two in the morning.
At night when the stars light up my room
I sit by myself, talking to the moon,
Trying to get to you, in hopes you're on the other side
Talking to me too
Or am I a fool who sits alone, talking to the moon?
"You have a really good voice. I'm impressed." I hear from behind me. I smile.
"I thought you were asleep?" I ask while climbing back through the window.
"I woke up." she simply states. "Do you do that often?" Demi asks.
"Only when I miss Tay." I say looking down, trying to keeo the tears at bay.
"Who's Tay?" Demi asks confused.
"My ex-girlfriend, Taylor." I simply state.
