Chapter 1

Fall Break (and Freedom) Begins

“So your parents are away the whole first week of Fall break?” Trevor asked excitedly.

“Yeah,” I replied. “Then they’re coming back for the next week after that.”

School had just got out. It was a Friday afternoon and the start of our fall break. Fall break last’s two weeks. That means two weeks of freedom and fun. The first week being the best since my parents were going away.

“Dude, that’s sick, man. I got the new Modern Warfare, we can play it all week at your place.”

“Sure Trevor,” I replied.

Me and my best friend Trevor were walking home to our small suburban neighborhood. Trevor is awesome. We’ve been friends for a long time. As long as I can remember. He’s a video game freak, but most freshmen guys are, I guess.

“We can stay up late and eat junk food all night!” Trevor continued. Just then both of us heard a soft voice calling out to us.

“Hey! Aaron! Trevor!” the voice called out. We both turned around. It was Rachel. Rachel is the most beautiful freshmen girl at our high school. She’s popular, but really nice. Sometimes she hangs out with Me and Trevor because we live in the same neighborhood.

“So you guys excited for break?” Rachel asked running towards us. Her long blonde hair was blowing in the wind. Amazing!

“Yeah,” I replied. “It’s gonna be awesome. My parents are out of town this week too.”

“Really?” said Rachel. “That’s cool, maybe we could hang out or something.”

“Yeah! Totally!” shouted Trevor. He also liked her. Everyone did.

“Cool” she said.

All of a sudden we heard another voice shouting to us. “Hey Beavis! Butt-head!”

“Crap” muttered Trevor. We all knew who was calling to Me and Trevor, but we turned around anyway.

Tyler. His name already makes me want to run. Tyler is a junior at our high school. He acts like he’s so much older then Me and Trevor but he’s only one year older! He’s a huge jerk! At least to Me, and Trevor, and about half the guys in our grade. Most of the girls in our grade love him. Even Rachel. It makes me want to puke. Rachel always tells me that he’s not that bad, but she has never gotten a swirlie or wedgie from him, has she? No. He’s tall and has dark shaggy hair. He always wears ripped jeans and rock t-shirts. He’s always beating me and Trevor up. It makes it worse that he lives in the same neighborhood as us.

He rode up on his skateboard and stopped in front of us.

“Hey, losers.” He put me in a head lock and started to give me a noogie before I broke free from his grasp.

“Hey Tyler” Rachel said. She flashed him that winning smile.

“Rachel, why are you hanging out with these dorks?” Tyler laughed.

“They’re not dorks, Tyler” Rachel replied. At least she kinda stood up for us. Tyler laughed again like a maniac.

“Really?” he said. “I bet you guys are heading to one of your houses right now and are going to play Modern Warfare all night.” His face got close when he said this. He was now inches away from our faces. He smiled an evil smile. Trevor and I both gulped.

“Right?” Tyler asked again grabbing the front of my shirt practically lifting me off the ground. Rachel gasped.

“Leave him alone, Tyler” Trevor said.

“Well, if it isn’t dork number two” said Tyler putting me down. He headed towards Trevor, but Rachel blocked our way.

“Tyler stop! That’s enough” Rachel said firmly.

“Relax” Tyler said in a sleazy voice. “I wasn’t gonna hurt them. We were just playing, right guys?”

“No you weren’t!” I yelled.

“Whatever, dork” he said. He punched me in the arm slightly then rode away on his skateboard.

I rubbed my sore arm. “That Tyler is such a jerk!” I yelled.

“He’s not the bad” said Rachel.

“Not that bad” Trevor replied. “He’s a huge jerk! Remember that time he put worms in your underwear, Aaron?”

“I rather not talk about that Trevor” I said.

We kept walking for a little bit. Soon Rachel got to her house and left us alone.

“Race you to your house Trevor!” I shouted. We both took off like Tyler was after us. We ran till our legs got tired all the way to his house. I beat him by just hair.

“You cheated” said Trevor.

“I did not” I said. “I’m just a faster runner then you.”

“Whatever, I still think you cheated” he said.

I went to his fridge and grabbed two sodas. I tossed one to him and we went to his living room. His parents weren’t home yet.

“Tonight, sleepover at my place” I told him.

“Heck yeah” Trevor shouted. We both opened our cans of pop. They made hissing noises as the carbonation escaped the cans.

“To the official start of fall break” I announced. We clinked cans together and took a few sips.

Little did we know that this fall break would be the absolute worst!
