Chapter 5- Part 1

"Are you okay?" Jake asks.

"No, my head hurts," I say holding a hand up to my forehead. I continue resting into Jake's side, worried about feeling more nauseous if I try to move.

My head begins throbbing ten times as bad as before. At this I move from Jake's side. Still beside him, I pull my legs up onto the couch, resting my head on my knees, my hands on both sides of my face. I close my eyes. I can't help myself, the pain is too strong, I scream out in pain. My head is killing me. I cannot deal with this, how long does the change take anyway? For me I hope it's shorter than the usual time to change.

"My head hurts," I screech out. Suddenly the pain doesn't feel as bad and it is just like it was before. It still hurts but is easy to ignore. "It stopped. Okay, I cannot deal with this. What can I do? What can we do to make sure I can't feel that again?"

"I'm sorry Nes but you might have to. Everyone has to go through that to change from human, I guess it is the same," Carlisle says with concern.

"Can't I take some medication? Pain killers?" I ask, tensing at the throbbing in my head.

"It doesn't work on vampires; it'll wear off too quickly."

"But I'm half human; just keep giving it to me."

"And that's the only reason you can feel all of this, you're human side can feel it."

"So that's why the feeling goes away? The vampire side cannot feel it."

"I believe so."

"Well how can we quicken it?" Jake says, sounding exasperated. I turn to face Jake; he is staring right at Carlisle, practically begging for answers. Oh poor Jake, Carlisle knows just as much as we do, he is just able to take educated assumptions based on experience and knowledge but truthfully? He has absolutely no idea.

"We can't. We can't bite you because you're part vampire so you have to go through it. I'm sorry but there's nothing I can do."

"Can someone get mum and dad, they wanted me home before dark and it's getting darker now," I say as I look out the window.

"I'll tell them," Jake says, getting up from the couch. I grab his hand.

"You said you'd stay, please stay."

"Jake stay, I'll call them," Alice says.

"Thanks Alice," I say as she grabs her mobile out of her pocket. She nods.

"Hi Edward." Alice is speaking to dad.

"Nessie and Jake are here." There's silence.

"Listen, something is wrong with Nessie so Jake bought her here. Nessie thinks maybe she is going through a kind of change, to turn into a full vampire."

"Okay, see you soon then." She puts her phone back in her pocket. "They're on their way." I nod.

Jake sits back down. I decide to lie down, so I move until I can, resting my head in Jake's lap. He rubs my forehead gently.

"You'll be okay, Nes." I'm about to reply but the pain comes back. Oh god, I don't know how much longer I can take of this. This time it's not like a head ache or anything, it's as if my head is on fire. Wait; don't humans feel like this when they change? I stretch out on the couch and roll over in pain. I thought I was going to fall off the couch but Jake grabs me. I force my eyes closed trying to think of something else. Please stop, I keep repeating over and over in my head but this time the pain does not go away. I hear someone come through the front door but I don't have the strength to turn and see who it is. I know its mum and dad though. I scream out in agony.

"What's wrong with her?" mum asks.

"We think she might be changing." someone answers, I think it was Rosalie.

"But she is a vampire!" dad exclaims.

"Not entirely. This might be the way to turn completely," Carlisle says.

"It'll be okay Nes," dad says to me.

"I-I-" I try speaking but I cannot. I feel myself almost fall off the couch again, and I realise I must be rolling with the pain.

"Dammit, can someone help me with Nes?" I hear Jake say. I suddenly feel someone at my feet. They sit down, placing my legs on their lap, holding my ankles in place. I try to squirm due to the pain.

"Shh, it's okay Nes," I hear dad say, he must be the one holding my legs.

"I. . . I" – I cannot get the words out. I curse myself in my head due to complete frustration.

"Don't speak, you'll be okay," mum says to me from somewhere in front of me.

"My head - on fire!" I try to speak but I speak all jumbled and cannot get a sentence out.
