I woke to find Thornclaw nudging me gently. His eyes were filled with happiness. I got up, stretched, and sat down.
"Alright, what's up with you?"
The golden brown tom just grinned and led me outside. I followed him, receiving a shock. Most of the clan had gathered in front of the boulders, where Bramblestar was standing.
"What..."
"Jade, please step forward."
I obeyed and saw my kits sitting next to Lilyheart. They looked as happy as Thornclaw.
"Jade, we are all filled with sorrow to hear about your loss. Squirrelflight told me what your mate... ahem.. Scourge said before he died. Is it correct that he told you to find ThunderClan and Firestar?"
I nodded.
"Well, we are sorry. Onestar has already told you that Firestar had perished in a battle a few season ago. Yet, I would like to ask you a favor. Would you like to join ThunderClan?"
I felt my breath catch in my throat. Join ThunderClan? Scourge had only told me to go and find Firestar. Yet now that Firestar is dead... I would do anything to make it up to him.
"Yes. Yes, I would love to join ThunderClan."
"Then, by the power of StarClan, I give you the name Jadefern. May StarClan always light your path."
Bramblestar leapt down and touched my head with his muzzle. I respectfully licked his shoulder, and he stepped back.
"Jadefern! Jadefern! Jadefern!"
My heart swelled as I heard the cheers, the loudest coming from Poppyfrost, Squirrelflight, Thornclaw, and my kits. Though I noticed that not all cats cheered. Berrynose narrowed his eyes and whispered in the ear of a light brown tabby tom, who nodded.
Bramblestar gave Honey, Branch, and Blue the names of Honeykit, Branchkit, and Bluekit. This time more of the clan cheered, though I didn't mind. My kits were happy, and that's all I want.
I turned to see Bramblestar padding toward me.
"The Gathering is tonight. That's where all four clans meet in peace, binded by truce and share news. Would you like to come?"
"Of course!"
"Good. We leave at dusk. Oh, and, welcome to the clan, Jadefern."
I nodded and thanked him as Bramblestar went off to the fresh-kill pile.
"Hey! Jadefern!"
I turned and saw Poppyfrost waving with her tail at me. I went over and joined her, seeing that she was flanked by Lionblaze, Sparkpaw, and a fluffy white tom.
"We're going hunting. Wanna come?"
I nodded happily and we set off.
