Well I was pretty nervous; it was the last day of me having a somewhat normal life. I sat in the corner of the room where there had previously been hundreds of people, but they got called out on stage. I was trying to stay calm as the girl next to me got called.
"Lighla Kale." One of the backstage workers grabbed her hand and walked her out to the stage. I couldnt help but admire how confident she was. She wielded a guitar as well, but it seemed that she could play better than I did. She had played for a while when there was more people, almost like she was performing. She got everyone's attention, including my own.
"Hello how are you today." The judge said.
"Im doing wonderful, a little nervous to be honest, but im doing great. How about you!" She responded with a rather shakier voice than I would have expected.
"Im doing good as well, now might I ask your name darling."
"My name is Lighla, Lighla kale." She now showed the confidence I saw earlier.
"Thats a beautiful name, Lighla, what will you be showing us today?" The judge said and I couldn't have been more eager to hear her play.
"Aww thanks.." she giggled, "Im going to play you a little song called 'Eyes Open' by Taylor Swift." She said and laughed. That made my cheeks turn red and I couldnt help but to giggle along with her.
She started playing the guitar shortly after she sang. Her voice was one of the softest and most beautiful ones I had ever heard. The way she plucked the strings and made melodies with her voice no one would have thought of was making a weird feeling bubble up inside me. I wanted to listen to her for hours but wanted her to stop as well. I guess it scared me how good she was.
"Keep your ey-eyes open."
She sang that last note and my stomach churned. She was good, really good. I wanted to talk to her. I wanted to meet her. I realized now that the audience was still silent. What were they doing, she was amazing and needed to be showered in applause after that stunning performance. My thoughts were stopped by a roaring applause and everyone stood up. The sound of them cheering obviously made her happy as she was tearing up now. The judge simply applauded, and I found myself angered by that.
She started to exit the stage. As the judge told her she was going to be a star, he was right. I mean how could you not be one with that talent.
"Keith Waters."
Oh no how could I have forgotten that I was also sopposed to go up there. My stomach sank and I wanted to run away from everything but I wasn't proccessing fast enogh and the backstage workers grabbed me and brought me out onto the stage.
"Wow..." I whispered and saw thousands of faces staring at me. There was so many people, it was flattering to me because I just kept telling myself they were here for me; to help my confidence.
"So young man how are you." He said making it obvious that he knew I was in awe by mockingly waving his hand as if to get my attention.
"I-I... Um. Im good I guess."
"Well it seems you're just a little bit nervous arent you?" He asked and laughed lightly.
"Uh ya.." I laughed nervously and louder than I had intended, "..im nervous but uh... I want to show you what ive got." I said trying to show them I was confident and then flashed my guitar at them.
"Alright then. But before you start what is your name sir."
"Uh Keith. Call me Keith. "
I started to strum the strings and felt a neurotic feeling rise. So I smoothly pretended that I was slowing it down and managed to calm my self a little. I felt everyone go quiet and made it a very silent moment before I would start singing softly and strumming to the tune of my voice.
Everyone stayed silent as I sang the song as best as I could at this point. I knew that they liked it because they all seemed to be shocked, in a good way of course. That gave me confidence and I started singing louder and played a little more loudly as well.
As I finished the first verse, and started playing the guitar a little more violently to show off, I looked around and saw Lighla looking at me. My heart started racing and I quickly looked away. I couldn't see her that well but she was smiling.
I forgot to start singing again and was a little cought off guard. But I quickly got back to the song. I needed to focus because this meant a lot to me. Anyways if I messed up now, I would be making a fool of my self in front of her.
I finished the song and ended with my guitar playing softer and softer untill you couldn't hear it anymore. Everyone started clapping and I got exited. Did I win? Was I going make it big? Was I ever going to talk to, even see, Lighla again?
"Wow!" The judge shouted bringing me out of my thoughts, "Talk about talent!" He shouted enthusiasasticly. "I didnt realize I did such a good job..."
I said nervously because I really hadn't thought I did well."Well, Keith, you did better than that. You were amazing! You're going to make it big wether you see it now or not. You're a star on the rise!" He said and was very happy now.
I couldnt help but feel bad for the other contestants that had to sit there and see me get praised. I for sure would get jealous.
"Well... thank you very, very much!" I tried to stay humble and left the stage.
