Chapter 12: Logan's Friend & The Beach Escape!

"The best thing about dreams is that fleeting moment, when you are between asleep and awake, when you don't know the difference between reality and fantasy, when for just that one moment you feel with your entire soul that the dream is reality, and it really happened." -Unknown

Another week had passed by and I was bored as ever.

It was yet another nice day in California. The sun was out, the sky was a clear baby blue and if someone went looking for me, they'd find me in my normal place. I was lying out in the garden, reading a book. My feet were swinging back and forth as I turned a page.

My blue tank top scrunched up against my back exposing some skin to the sun. Beneath it my white shorts were nicely fitted against me. A nice shade came off of the willow tree to helped me cool down as I reached for the small wooden basket in front of me, and took out a nice juice yellow apple. All in all, it was a good day, but still dreadfully boring. The phone buzzed to note it was from Logan. Quickly, I tapped on the screen and read his text message. I just smiled typing back, a few seconds later it buzzed again. Coming over in twenty

Closing my suspenseful book, I left my comfortable spot and walked to my room to change into a white top shirt with blue and pink flowers were draped around and encircled by green leaves. The bottoms where a nice dark denim shorts, that lay complement to the black belt around it. I curled my hair in a matter of minutes, fluffed it out, and lastly put on a little eyeliner on. Double checking the hallway for any signs of life, I lightly trotted downstairs, making sure no one was around to see me leave. My phone buzzed again. Outside Hurry!

Since the visit with Mrs. Pierce my mother had nagged me on and on about Matthew. At every chance of escape, she had somehow roped me back to reality, insisting Matthew come along with me, to 'develop' our ongoing relationship. In truth, it was completely awkward the days after our incident in the hall, at least for me, he on the other hand seemed indifferent. This only served to remind me of our hidden truth and decided it was best to brush off any acquired feeling I may have developed for him.

In the heat of the day, I dashed across the lawn and leaped into the back seat of the car which peeled out. Audioslave's Gasoline was blasted into high gear as I high five Logan who was grinned at me, April turned around. "Hey you made it out without anyone noticing. Nice"

"I know right! I'm fast as lightning...So, Logan how's the sunburn?" I heard April laughing over the music. He just glared at me from his mirror.

"Haha. you're just jealous of my awesome tan, by the way Shane's coming over. Though I didn't tell him you were coming either, but it's not like he'll mind. I mean you guys haven't seen each other for two months now." Logan said quickly glancing over at me. My breath hitched, as my heart wildly pounded against my chest. I clutched the seat tightly beneath me, telling myself to breath. April looked over and caught my panicked eyes. This would the first time I've seen him since my engagement party.

I didn't expect him to stop talking to me afterward, but that's what happened when I first told him about my engagement a year ago. Figured it would be around the time we were hitting it off so well. He wasn't at all cold, but had distance himself from me. The week that followed, I was avoided, until Logan pulled him to the side one day and talked to him. Whatever they spoke about helped Shane revert back to his normal self. Anxiety consumed me, when we pulled up to his house. My palms were sweaty and I had butterflies fluttering all around. Logan went ahead of us and April pulled me to the side. "You okay?" she asked concern.

"Yea just a little nervous that's all." I brushed out my hair and tried to compose myself before heading in.

"If it helps you look really beautiful right now." she said catching up to me. I looked over and smiled. "Thank you, it's what I was aiming for."
