"Come on Stormfly, this is the last part I promise!" The blonde Viking urged her dragon on despite its grumbling and smiled to feel the rush of the wind against her face. Stormfly shifted underneath her, adjusting her wings to glide around the cliff face and up again. Circling once more over the forest, Astrid decided that all was good and patted Stormfly's side.
"Alright girl, time to head b-" Her voice was cut short by a scream from below her, followed by a loud roar. Before she had even registered what had happened, Stormfly tucked in her wings and zoomed down to earth.
Upon landing, Astrid jumped off her dragons back, axe ready in hand. "Stormfly, spines ready" She murmured. A click told her the dragon had heard. Axe out in front, Astrid walked slowly and quietly whilst listening out for any more noises.
Another roar reverberated through the forest, followed by a shout. The voice was too far away for the words to be understood but it definitely belonged to a female. On full alert now, Astrid began to run.
Slowly, the shouts began to become comprehensible. "Stay back! Go away!" A girl shouted, followed by another loud dragon call. "Monstrous Nightmare" Astrid decided, recognising the call, and burst into the scene.
Expecting to see a lost dragon rider from Berk, Astrid and Stormfly stopped in confusion at the event before them. A girl, around Astrids age and height, was battling an orange 'Nightmare with what appeared to be...a stick?
Baffled, Astrid shook her head and turned to Stormfly. Without a word, the Nadder flicked her tail, sending a volley of spikes between to girl and the dragon. The 'Nightmare looked at the newcomers and, deciding it was outmatched, took flight.
"Thanks" Astrid turned back to the girl. Looking at her now, she realised the girl was in fact, slightly shorter than her own height. Her brown hair had a gold tinge to it which caught the light, and was pulled back into a braid. Piercing grey eyes watched the two distrustfully, analysing their movements. Her clothes, indigo and brown, were tagged and torn. But despite this, the girl's look was one that told Astrid that she was ready to take her on if she became a new threat.
"I'll start with the obvious questions. Who are you, and how did you get here?" The girl looked at Stormfly's still spiked tail and then to Astrids axe. Sighing, Astrid motioned for the Nadder to stand down and placed her own axe back over her shoulder. "Ok, weapons are away. Now talk"
"My name is Tora. And I don't know how I got here" She looked slightly worried as she said this, her face going back to impassive when she realised Astrid saw. "Who are you?" "My name is Astrid, and this is Stormfly" Astrid gestured behind her to the Deadly Nadder. The dragon roared a gentle hello and cocked her head on the side, making Tora smile.
The girls smile then turned into a wince. "My head, I think-" Her legs collapsed underneath her before she could utter another word. Astrid ran forward and checked Tora's pulse. She was unconscious, her pulse an inconsistent beat. There was patch of blood at the back of her head from where something big had hit her. "Bloody Nightmares" Astrid cursed and shifted one arm under the unconscious girls arm, lifting her up into a standing position.
"Little help here Stormfly?" She gasped under the weight before the dragon knelt beside her, allowing the Viking to place Tora on the saddle. Hopping on behind the unconscious girl, Astrid steadied herself so she could fly and keep Tora's body from slipping off.
"Ok Stormfly, back to the Edge. We need help"
