Carmen POV
As the elevator stops at Level 1, Crystal and I head out into the District One suite. I looks really similar to ours, but with a more luxurious feel. I see that the remaining alliances are all here. Renee still looks extremely terrifying with the dark, smokey makeup and her dark dress. Lux, however, looks dashing with his groomed up state. For the other three Capitol boys, however, I can't say the same. Thin, starving and dehydrated. They look terrible.
As the photographer brings Crystal and I to the photo shoot set, I'm shocked to see my arena bow and arrows. With my four knives, Crystal's sword is also on the ground. With her eleven knives.
The photographer, who is a very altered Capitol man, instructs us to get our weapons that we can use the best. I wield my archer set and Crystal lunges for her sword.
The Capitol man instructs us to turn sideways, back with back. We do and instinctively lift up our weapons of choice. I load up my bow with a silver arrow while Crystal plants her sword on her shoulder. We smile, viciously, into the camera and the flash blinds us. We later try different angles, with different expressions. This photo shoot is actually quite fun.
The photographer is happy with our shots and gives me a name card. He probably is betting on us to win. Victors need a prep team, stylist and a photographer. I guess he wants us to hire him.
On the front, the card is neatly decorated with a border of lace. In the middle, a cursive font spells out the name Thanjelo Sotta. What a weird name. I don't question it though. Below it, the font is neatened and it prints clearly his phone number.
I accept the name card and walk out of the set. Next up is the duo. They brush right past through me and nudge Crystal in the elbow. Crystal curses at them and mutters,
"Lunatics, good luck."
I laugh spontaneously and we head back up to our District 12 suite. Apparently, we are supposed to watch a broadcast from the President at 3am sharp. Anyone not watching will be executed personally by the President himself. It's about 1am in the morning. I remove all the makeup to reveal the scars on my face from Felix. Even with the medicine the sponsors sent down, the scars don't come off. My stomach wound and scar is gone though. But the medicine only works for wounds that are not healed. At that time, my wounds had healed on my body but not my face. With all the excess makeup gone, I finally reveal my true self. The girl in the arena. The girl that was considered as a "threat" to the others. With battle scars and wounds. This is really me. The girl that hunted for her life.
I kick off the shoes and walk unsteadily to the living room. Apparently, with an hour of being taller than usual, I have forgotten how to walk like a normal person.
Serena sees me and passes me a pair of flats to walk in. They feel nice when walking. She then takes off my jewellery and my dress and exchanges it with a simple green top with a pair of skinny jeans. Then, she removes the remaining makeup off my face. I guess I didn't do a very good job of removing it.
Lastly, she combs out my braid and takes my hat off. As of then, she ushers me into the living room. She tells me that breakfast is served at 8am and I shouldn't be late for it. Serena leaves the room and reminds me that the broadcast is mandatory at 3am.
I saunter around the halls of the huge suite, trying to think of something to do. It's only 2am. And we have an extra hour to walk. I see that the guards are gone. Perhaps....
