"How did she even get here?" Hiccup asked, bewildered by Tora asleep on the infirmary bed, "The island is in the middle of practically nowhere!" He held his chin thoughtfully and began pacing.
"Maybe she was on a travelling boat?" Fishlegs suggested. He too looked puzzled. Looking around, they all did. Well, except for Tuffnut who was busy conversing with Chicken.
"Yeah, maybe. But there wasn't any storms lately" Hiccup replied. "She seemed like she knew dragons, the way she handled herself against that Monstrous Nightmare. Hiccup, newbies don't do that" Astrid commented.
"Am I the only one thinking straight here!" Snotlout finally burst out. All eyes turned to him, even Tuffnut. Hiccup shared a glance with Astrid, silently asking if she was as confused as him. "Well, do clue us in Snotlout" Hiccup muttered.
"She's a spy! For Dagur! Why else would she be here?" Shock rang out through the room, echoing on each riders face. None of them, apart from Snotlout, had thought of it. "Hiccup, maybe we sh-" Astrids words were cut off by a moan coming from the bed. All eyes turned back to the waking patient.
"Where-where am I?" Tora murmured sleepily and blinked around the room at the riders. She bolted upright and scrambled back, hands grabbing at her back. When they came back empty, she glared at the group. "Where's my weapon?" She demanded, "Who are you people?"
Hiccup opened his mouth to placate the girl but Astrid bet him to it. "Tora, it's me, Astrid. Remember? You were fighting a Monstrous Nightmare and we think it may have hit you on the head somehow. You passed out so Stormfly and I carried you here. These are my friends," she pointed to each person in turn, "Hiccup, Fishlegs, The twins, Ruffnut and Tuffnut, and Snotlout" Each rider waved at Tora when they were mentioned, apart from Snotlout who gave her a glare, one she gladly returned.
Hiccup chose that time to cut in. "Listen, Tora, we're not going to hurt you. We just want to help. Can you tell us how you got here?" Tora looked to Astrid who gave a comforting smile, and then back to Hiccup.
"That's the thing, I don't know. I can't remember. All I can remember is waking up on the island, on one of the beaches, and trying to find some place for shelter. Which, as Astrid saw, didn't go so well when I went into that dragons den. Which I didn't know it was at the time!" She held up her hands defensively. Hiccup looked at Astrid and the back to Tora. "So, you don't remember anything?" "Trust me, I wish I did. You think you're confused, try being in my head at the mome-is that a Night Fury?!" Hiccup whipped his head around to see Toothless entering the infirmary, curious about all the commotion.
"Yeah, that's Toothless. He's my dragon. Wait, how did you know he's a Night Fury?" Tora frowned and looked down at herself. "I don't, I don't know?! The name just came to me then. It's like the other dragon, the Monstrous Nightmare, I know what it's called. I know it can set itself on fire and that they're extremely territorial and all other things, I just don't know how I know. I can't remember! Bits are coming back to me, random things. A bit of metal, some red dragon scales, random names that I don't understand" She finished and held her head, "What is happening to me!"
Astrid placed a hand on the girls shoulder. "We'll figure it out Tora. All of us" She looked around the group for confirmation and frowned at Snotlout until he sighed and agreed. "But I still think she's a spy for Dagur!" He called out before leaving the hut. One by one, the rest of the riders left, leaving Toothless, Hiccup and Astrid with Tora.
"Who's Dagur?" She asked the pair absently, still looking at Toothless. "A story for another time" Hiccup declared with a measured look at Astrid. The blonde nodded and left the hut.
"Can I touch him?" She finally asked and motioned her head at Toothless. "Um, sure. Bud?" Toothless looked up from where he had curled on the floor and made his way over. He sniffed Tora's hand before decided that he liked her and placing his head in her lap. The girl smiled and began scratching the dragon under the jaw, causing him to purr in content. Hiccup made his way outside and met up with Astrid.
"How did it go?" She questioned him immediately. She was like that, always straight to the point and precise. It was one of the things Hiccup liked about her. "Well, she passed the 'Toothless Test'. I've never seen him so relaxed with a stranger before to be honest. She didn't even mention the saddle or the whole thing about us riding dragons! It's like she's, I don't know, used to it or something? The dragons don't seem to faze her at all" He glanced back at the door thoughtfully.
"Now the question is, can we trust her?" Astrid asked, voicing both their thoughts. "If Toothless trusts her, then so do I," Hiccup stated and looked back up at the Viking. "I just hope he's right"
