hey there delilah,
morning glory and i decided to go see a movie. i talked them into seeing (500) days of summer, because you said you wanted to see it, and i knew we would never get to see it in theaters together.
(maybe one day we can watch it together one day when it comes out on dvd)
they all gave me strange looks, but we saw it. there we were, five teenage boys watching a chick movie together. i think they all actually got quite invested in it as i did, but they all lied and said that it was a dumb chick movie. griffin told me later that he rather liked it.
i played the melody to your song tonight during my set. i told them it wasn’t done yet, and there weren’t any words quite yet, because i’m bad at writing odes to beautiful women. the audience applauded for me and told me it was perfect.
griffin and i sat down to write the lyrics late tonight (more like 3 am, really), and he saw a letter that i was writing to you together with my things, and he kept repeating the greeting of “hey there delilah”. then he began to sing it to the melody i had constructed, and he suggested that i write the song like it was a letter to you. we have the opening lines of “hey there delilah, what’s it like in new york city?/i’m a thousand miles away, but tonight you look so pretty...”, but nothing else. i’ll keep you updated. i promise you, delilah, it will be one of best songs ever.
love always from nashville
