I looked over to see Marty's minions running behind me. I was running out of breath, but it was run or be caught. All though the lot wasn't very big, I could still hide. As I rounded the corner, I saw an open gate that led to a dirt parking lot. Sprinting through the cars, I cursed myself for being so stupid...
Hold up, let me tell you about how I wound up like this. It started out on my little sister, Dylan's birthday. I woke up at 6:00 in the morning to make sure everything was ready, with our parents gone, I've spent the last five years trying to keep her safe, happy and her life as normal as it can be after somebody's parents died. Anyways, my name is Breland, I'm 21 years old, have waist length black hair, blue eyes, "perfect" teeth, a nose ring, and have a small body. The few friends I have say I have all the men drooling over me, but I don't think I'm that attractive. I practically have the role of a single mother, but the smile on Dyl's face makes life worth it.
By 10:00 I had the cake baked and decorated, all the party decorations set up, and her presents wrapped and ready for her. As I put the last candle in the cake, I heard her yawning and walking down stairs. "Happy 16th birthday Dyl!!!!" I exclaimed as i wrapped her in a hug. As she pulled away She smiled and looked around, her shoulder length black hair was in a ponytail and yesterday's makeup was smeared under her eyes. "This looks amazing Bre! Thankyou!"
I picked up the smallest present and handed it to Dylan. She looked at the tag and tears instantly stated to pour down her face, "This... this is from mom and dad." She whispered as she sat on the couch, she pulled the card and read the long message. Mom and dad knew they weren't going to make it to her 16th birthday after the wreck, they already had the present picked out, it was an emerald birthstone necklace, they wrote the card practically on their death bed. In tears, they had asked me to give it to Dylan on her 16th birthday and i promised i would.
I wrapped Dylan in a hug as she started sniffling, "I remember that day," she sniffled into my neck "the doctor said we all should have died in that wreck, but you covered me so that I didn't get hurt we both came out with bumps, scrapes, cuts, and bruises and Mom had a ruptured heart and dad had a clot blocking blood flow to his heart. Mom was in a floral dress, her long black hair was neatly pulled back with a bow and dad was in his normal formal blue shirt and black pants. You look so much like her." she said pulling away.
I brushed her hair behind her ear "And so do you." I said with a smile. "Now open your present." she smiled as she opened it. She pulled out a birthstone necklace which was Emerald. I hooked the clasp around her neck and handed her the next present which was our mom's wedding ring. The day went by fast and before I knew it I was cleaning up the party.
As I went to sit down after hours of cleaning, the doorbell rang."That's probably Meg. She forgot her purse." Dylan ran down the stairs and looked through the peep hole then slowly backed away. "Bre?" I stood up quickly and ran to the door, through the peep hole I could see two very strange men. I grabbed a knife from the counter that was around the corner and made Dylan stand behind me as I put the knife behind my back; they knocked again. Louder. I took a deep breath then opened the door. "Breland Schafer? You need to come with us." The older man put his hand on his gun while the younger guy was in the shade where I couldn't see his face.
When I saw his gun flicker in the porch light, my flight or fight instinct kicked in. "Dyl, run and hide!" I yelled as I pulled the knife out and swung towards the man. He easily grabbed my arm and stuck a needle in my neck then handed me to the other guy. I tried to move but I couldn't. Dylan screamed then went silent. I looked up at the guy holding me and with all my strength said "Please help." The last thing I saw was his sad brown eyes looking down at me.
