Alex glanced out of the window at the people gathered for the funeral, many of them she had never seen before.
As soon as she had left the car she was already bombarded with people, many of them she didn't recognise, but she guessed they were all family friends or distant relatives. Each of them saying how sorry they are and giving her huge hugs a little too tightly.
"Alex" Through the great crowd of people, Alex caught the top of her cousin Millie's head. They were more best friends which came in handy at family gatherings such as this.
"Excuse me people, let the girl breathe."
With a sigh Millie grabbed her arm and pulled her to safety.
"Woah thanks, was getting a bit much right there. I don't even know most of them!" Alex said trying to get her breathe back and pulling her best friend into a hug.
Alex then followed Millie through even more people to where her aunt and uncle stood talking to her Mum.
"Oh hey Alex." Her Aunt Jenny pulled her into a hug. As she pulled away her uncle gave her a light squeeze on the shoulder.
"How you coping kiddo," he asked, concern filling his face.
"I'm okay I guess, could be a lot better but okay," Alex gave her uncle a hug and put her arms around Millie's shoulders.
"Just glad I have people who help me get through times like these," grabbing Millie's hand Alex started to pull her away.
"C'mon. Let's go find Ben."
Millie laughed and let Alex pull her along.
As expected they found Ben by the food table. Ben was also Alex's cousin and as you can probably guess, always eating. The thing was though he was nowhere near overweight, so often Alex and Millie were left wondering where all the food went!
"Hey greedy pig." Creeping up behind him Millie tapped on his shoulder.
"HEY!" Ben moaned through a mouthful of food.
"It's not our fault you are so predictable and easy to find. Your always eating!" Millie said as innocently as possible.
"Anyway the funeral is starting any time soon so we best get going," Millie snatched the cake he was about to shovel into his mouth off him and they all set of to the church.
Once inside the church, the three of them were directed to the front row and they were left in an awkward silence with an echo of sobbing all around them. had never seen before.
