Slamming her bedroom door behind her, Alex let out a breath that she never even realised she had been holding. She definitely did not expect the funeral to be so much effort. Most of the time spent avoiding unwanted attention from people she had never even met. Throughout the funeral, she'd had no option but to stay and have lengthly conversations about how great her Grandmother was. This of course she already knew.
At the funeral there was talk of the good old days when her Grandmother was still alive, and tears. Lots and lots of tears.
This was expected as it was a funeral.
Arriving home, Alex felt a huge weight lifted from her shoulders. Finally peace and quiet.
Laying down on her bed, headphones on and just when she was about to press play, there was a sharp knock at the door.
With a sigh Alex stood up and answered it to find her Mother, holding a tray of Digestive biscuits and a glass of milk.
"Can I help you?" Alex asked, trying her best to cover the hint of sarcasm.
"I have brought you these in case you get hungry." Her mum said.
The hopeful look on her mum's face made Alex force a smile and say thanks, before taking the tray and closing the door.
What was she, five?
Milk and biscuits were the last thing she wanted right now but her mum's face made her at least try and act appreciative.
Once again Alex sat on her bed and plugged in her headphones and relaxed. She couldn't help but take a digestive and a refreshing gulp of milk.
