Chapter 15

Lila put up with Clint's understandable clinginess for only so long. She had not forgotten about Loki, simply put the guilt to the back of her mind. But she would not leave him alone, believing she had either been killed or abandoned him, so she spoke up.

"James?" She said hesitantly.

Clint instantly focused all of his attention on her. "I was in a cell with someone else... do you think you could let him out too?"

All of a sudden, she had the entire room's attention. Fury spoke up.

"No." His voice was hard. He had let one dangerous monster out, he would not let out another one. Lucky for him, Loki had given him a reasonable excuse to keep him locked up.

Lila's eyes flashed dangerously and Clint tightened his grip on her.

"He is innocent!"

Fury glared. "He killed 80 people in two days!"

That gave Lila pause. "Well he must have had a good reason. Has anyone considered asking why?"

The room was deadly silent; you could here a pin drop. That gave Lila her answer. "Well," she said, steeling herself for the backlash she knew would come, "I will ask him then."

"No!" Shouted nearly everyone in the room, including Clint.

Thor was not opposed. He had seen how this girl could bring back the old brother he use to have. He had to know why he would become a villain, what had happened to him when he fell of the Bifrost?

Lila glared, eyes flashing red, effectively intimidating, and everyone lowered their tone.

She turned to Clint and decided to see if the puppy dog eyes would work on him now as they had in the past. "James, you know as well as I that even villains (which Loki's not) have motivations. He's not likely to tell anyone, accept for maybe me. I made friends with him and I don't believe that the man I saw in there would do something so... drastic, without a reason!"

Lila could see his resolve crumbling as his protective instinct and his desire to make her happy warred with one another.

Knowing that she would not be told no, he gave in. "Alright." He sighed, "But I want there to be guards just outside the door!" She grinned, hugging him around the middle before bounding off.

The room was silent as they processed what had just happened. Thor and Charles glanced at each other, mirth lighting their eyes. Hopefully, this would go well.

Loki growled as he paced. If Lila didn't come back soon, he would have to go and find her.

A little voice in the back of his head whispered menacingly, "She's not so important. We wouldn't want our plans ruined for a foolish mortal girl now would we?"

Pain flared as he clutched at his head, shaking it desperately.
