Max shot his head at George, "Are you fucking kidding me?" You had just noticed he had a thick Australian accent. But you jumped back to what George said and felt a sweet feeling in your stomach and felt color rush to your cheeks.
"What?"
"You.. So badass and just, wow. Im blown back. You didn't seem like the type to ya know, do that." He gestures with his hands towards the store and just gazed at you. "Where are you going now? I mean you're welcome to come hang out with me?"
You shook your head lightly and held up the bag of money, "I actually have some business to do at dawn so no thanks. Maybe I can swing by after?"
George nodded his head and held his hand out, "Give me your phone." You hesitantly grabbed it and handed it over. You slid it open for him and he quickly typed his number in. "Text me when you're uh, done."
A grin grew ok your lips and you nodded, "Sounds good." You eyes flickered to Max and he just stared at George.
"You two are fucking delusional."

After you found Jay and got everything sorted you sat on a roadblock that was angled near the docks. You looked at your phones time, 2:30 am. You had been sitting here for almost two hours, just thinking. That kid George hadn't escaped your mind. However you forgot about him after he left was beyond you. He seemed like a kind soul with good intentions, which could lead him somewhere he shouldn't be, but it was his choice to talk to you.
With a sigh you slid your phone open, highly doubting he was even awake at this time. You had meant to text him but the meet up dragged on longer than expected and you wanted to be alone for awhile. Sometimes you became greedy and didn't want to be around people. Your fingers found their way to his name and quickly typed a message up.
You: Hey sorry for not texting you sooner, stuff came up. Hang out tomorrow? I hope.
You tapped send and locked your phone before sliding it into your jacket pocket. You pushed yourself up from the roadblock and brushed off your backside. You walked slowly away from the piers and decided heading home would be the best option. You had no more product from Toby and you could feel your body become more sluggish wth each step. You hadn't been able to sleep lately from being out and selling so lately and sleeping at home was hard to do with that asshole Rob in your business. Which meant you had nowhere else to sleep, so no sleep was usually the outcome.
After an hour of shuffling, you reached the shitty complex you called home. Trudging up the stairs you approached the apartment door. From inside came yelling and some thumps. Your hand hovered over the door knob and you thought over if going inside was a good idea. Either your mom and Rob were fucking, or worse they were fighting. If you walked in and even breathed for a second, Rob would have your ass. He had it out for you and it made no sense.
Once you grew up, you gripped the knob and swung open the door. There stood your mom in the kitchen yelling. She held a rolling pin in her hand and was waving it as she spoke. "And I swear to god, if you fucking come near me and pull the fake attitude I will roll your dick out." Your mom spoke heavily as she looked around. She must've heard the door because she turned to glance at you and she gave a smile. "Sweetie, now is not the time."
"No it's not, it's four fucking am. What could you two be possibly yelling over?" You stepped inside, shutting the door behind you. As you shut the door, Rob came into vision. He walked out of the bathroom, he looked sweaty and agitated.
"This fucker is finally home. Where the hell have you been?" He eyed you as he walked into the kitchen. You could smell the alcohol on his breath from where you stood.
    "Out."
    "Out where?"
You glared at him and shrugged, "With people. Why does it matter?" You spoke calmly as you stepped to the cup board and rummaged for a snack. Nothing. What was new.. Your mom never went grocery shopping. Either there was no money or Rob and his goodies ate all of it before you had the chance to grub.
Rob stepped closer with a scowl. "Don't be a prick, tell me where you have been? We've been worried."
"Oh shut up, no you haven't. If I died you'd be delighted." With the last word you shut the cup board door and turned around. He was closer now. His warm breath crept around your face and you waved your hand. "Well shit, drink out the whole liquor store?"
Suddenly a flash of heat struck your face and your head was turned like a wheel. Your hands reached up to cover the heat. "Don't be fucking rude. Talk to me like that in my house again and you'll regret it." You could hear your mom call out but Rob quickly hushed her and she coward back from the two of you.
Anger flared up inside you and you clenched your fist, "This isn't even your fucking apartment!"
Rob stopped and glared at you, you could see the drunk mess and anger in his eyes as he slurred forward with his words, "God so help..."
"God would never help you, asshole."
Next thing you knew, Rob had you on the ground with one toss. His foot met your side multiple times until he knelt down and grabbed your arm again. His fingers dug into your skin and you let out a cry. His eyes met yours, but you held yourself together. Your eyes were bold and steady as they studied him. He was still a drunken mess, staggering a bit as he tried to balance as he knelt before you. "Don't b a bitch. You're over 18, I can kick you out ya know."
"You're not even my real dad, you're my moms toy." You spoke through clenched teeth as your kept a stare glued to him.
"Doesn't matter." With that he flung your arm out of his grip and slapped you once more. This time the sting was even worse and you could feel tears welling up. He stood and started to walk away, but before he did he gave one last kick and walked out of the kitchen. You lied on the ground in a ball, your eyes glanced up to see your mom at the table crying. Her eyes held so much worry and emotion as they watched you.
Slowly pushing yourself up, you struggled to get to the door. You felt like your lungs couldn't gather air, as you walked out and down the steps. Your eyes couldn't stay open with the tears and the wave of exhaustion overcoming them. Your made way to the bottom of the steps and sat on the last one. You held your side as you slowly lowered yourself and lied down. You stared up at the sky, but couldn't see a star due to all the city lights.
Once you felt the pain hit you all at once, emotionally and physically, you broke down into tears and cried quietly. Your eyes got so tired they gave up and you just fell into a deep, depressed slumber.

••••••••••••••

Car horns and the bright sunlight woke you up. Your eyes opened slowly and struggled, you were still so exhausted and crying in your sleep made it difficult to open your eyes. As you slowly pushed your self to sit up, you looked around. No one had tried to wake you up, but everyone knew Rob and probably figured this was normal.
Your hand slid into your jacket pocket and grabbed your phone. Twenty-three percent charge, shit. You checked through your texts. Two from Toby about product and one from... George? Wow. You stared at the notification for a few moments in shock he even responded. You quickly slid it open to read it.
George: Hey (y/n)! Sorry yeah we turned in early last night, but that's fine. We should hangout today, you down?
You quickly glanced to see what time the text had been sent, fifteen minutes ago. You smiled in relief knowing you hadn't straight up ignored him and quickly responded.
You: Yeah, when and where. Just let me know.
You hit send and kept the phone open as you waited to see if he would respond quickly. And you were right. The three little bubbles popped up as he wrote. A smile washed over your face as you stared at the three bubbles. Something so small had never made you so happy.
George: Yah, anytime you want come by my apartment it's (His address obviously lmao).
With a smile you stood yourself up and rubbed your eyes. There was a silver lining to your life now, and his name was George.
