Dawn raced through the trees, looking for Mockingbird. She soon found a scent trail and had begun to follow it.
She could only imagine what happened to the hunting patrol. At least her parents weren't in it. Then she realized. Aspen. Dawn ran quicker and quicker.
She's my closest friend. If anything happens to her. Dawn nearly tripped over a rock as she ran. She found Thorn and Cotton on Mockingbird's tail.
When Dawn caught up with them Cotton turned back to her.
"There you are!" She said between gasping breaths. Dawn nodded in silence afraid of what Mockingbird would say if Dawn talked to the Omega in a casual manner.
Mockingbird stopped dead in her tracks as they came to a small clearing.
They stopped so fast Thorn stepped on Cotton's foot and they barked at each other again. Wow. Dawn thought to herself. We're all so mature.
Then her mind went blank when she saw the scene.
Birch hissed and growled as two foxes surrounded her, Toad, Aspen, and Twigs.
"You see those pups! Two of those are mine! The other is my fellow pack member's! You've taken my mate but you are not taking them!" Birch barked at them.
Dawn was confused. What did she mean they had taken her mate? Well, Dawn had always wondered what happened to Aspen's father.
The foxes hissed and drooled claws scraping the dirt ready to fight.
"Mom!" Shouted Aspen "Let me help you! You know you're not a great fighter!" Birch stood in her place not making a move.
"ATTACK!" Mockingbird yelled racing at one of the foxes. Birch dodged out of the way. Thorn and Cotton followed her into battle.
Dawn was amazed as Mockingbird was single-pawed fighting off the bigger of the two foxes.
Suddenly Aspen saw Dawn. "What are you doing help her!' She barked. Dawn looked over and realized Mockingbird was losing to the fox.
Dawn darted forward to land right to the side of the fox. She looked back to see Aspen heading for the other one.
Mockingbird looked over at Dawn, gave her a smile then pounced at the fox. She ripped at it's muzzle, but the fox was still getting good blows on her.
Dawn knew what she was doing, she was distracting it.
Dawn bent her legs and pounced on top of the fox. She sunk her teeth in the back of it's neck. It thrashed wildly nearly throwing her off.
But Mockingbird pounced on the fox as well, thrusting it straight into the dirt.
Dawn snapped it's neck landing the killing blow. She let go of it's limp body and became nauseous at smell of fox overwhelming her. As she breathed she looked over to see that Thorn, Cotton, and Aspen had taken their fox down as well.
Everyone was fine. Even though, looking around her Dawn could tell they had injuries.
Cotton in particular had gotten her belly raked. Dawn realized everyone's conditions may be more serious then she thought.
"Dawn!" Aspen screamed. Her eyes were wide and terrified. Dawn did not understand why. Suddenly she felt an extreme pain in her side. She howled as it throbbed. Suddenly light began to fall out of the world. Then everything went sideways, and began spinning. She saw Aspen running towards her barking, with tears wetting her muzzle.
What was going on? Dawn sat there dazed and confused. Suddenly she heard what she thought was Mockingbird. "Both her and Cotton are in critical condition, we need to get them back to the cave!"
Critical condition? No, Dawn couldn't be. Critical condition meant she had a high chance of dying, and that couldn't happen to Dawn. She was fine while fighting the fox just a few seconds ago!
Suddenly all voices became a ring. The world collapsed in on itself. Then it all went black.
