Selina's POV-
We were walking through the woods along the New Jersey riverbank, wet from the rain, and startled from the bus, not knowing where in the world we were heading. The smell of Hudson reeks, and some of us were sweaty.
Grover was shivering and braying, his giant goat eyes turned slit-pupils and full of terror. "The Kindly Ones. All three at once."
I was surprised I could hear Grover, since the explosion of the bus rang in my ears. Grover and Percy were in shock still, since they weren't used to this. But Annabeth, Isabella, and I dragged them along.
Chris kept on saying: "Come on! The farther away we get, the better."
"All our money was back there," Percy reminded us. "Our food and clothes. Everything except Seth's bag."
I looked at my leather bag and checked it for anything. All I had was Chapstick, arrows, my sword, a ring and a spare change of clothes.
"Sorry Percy, I got nothing," I sighed.
"Well, maybe if you hadn't decided to jump into the fight—" Annabeth started.
"Annabeth!" I shouted.
"What did you want me to do? Let you get killed?"
"Percy, there were five of us," Isabella said.
"Percy, we would've been fine," Chris sighed.
"Sliced like sandwich bread," Grover put in, "but fine."
"Oh shut up, goat boy," Annabeth and I said.
Grover brayed mournfully. "Tin cans...a perfectly good bag of tin cans."
I sighed at Grover. I threw my Chapstick at him, and he ate it happily. We sloshed across mushy ground, through nasty twisted trees that smelled like dirty camper laundry after Friday. After a few minutes, I fell into line with Percy.
"I appreciate your coming back for us, okay? That was really brave. Annabeth appreciates it too. She just doesn't admit it ."
Percy smiled at me, "How long have you been at camp?""Oh since I was seven..." I said.
"Wow..." Percy said. "So what do you think that thing was the other day?"
"I don't know. Annabeth thinks that I am some sort of goddess."
"Hey Seth?" Percy asked.
"Yes?"
"Can I call you Selina. I think it's pretty." Percy asked.
I smiled and blushed a bit and nodded.
"So Percy, what do think—"
I was interrupted by a shrill toot-toot-toot, like the sound of an owl being tortured.
"Hey, my reed pipes still work!" Grover cried. "If I could just remember a 'find path' song, we could get out of these woods!"
He puffed out a few notes, but the tune still sounded suspiciously like Hilary Duff.
Then Percy walked into a tree. Instead of finding a path.I am sorry to admit, that I giggled. After another mile we smelled food. It smelled like burgers! We walked until we found a shop with a 90's billboard.
It looked like: ANTYU SEM GEDRAN GEONM MEROPUIM to me.
"What the heck does that say?" Percy asked."I don't know. I can't read crap either Percy." I laughed.
Grover translated: "Aunty Em's Garden Gnome Emporium."
There were to cement garden gnomes in the front, smiling as if they were about to get their picture taken. Percy crossed the street, as Grover warned, "Hey..."
