I follow the lady with the curly red hair. Through lanes and passage ways. Past ladies with beautiful bonnets and men with silken suits. Past horse drawn carriages and young children chasing each other.
I try to absorb it all. The life outside of the orphanage that I have never known. But now I am free of that dreaded place. After ten long years I am finally free. Free of the lumpy porridge. Free of the crisp lemon smelling sheets. Free from old Miss. Bradford. Free. I am finally free.
I let this sink in as I follow the kind lady who has taken me in. Toward the place that I will soon call home. Towards the family that I have always dreamt of. Towards a fresh slate. A new life. I can forget my past and my miseries. Dirty secrets torn away in time. I can settle in and find comfort and warmth. I will now open up my cold stone heart and let people in. It shall be replaced my a golden one.
