Today was the day. I wouldn't need to worry about her being on her own anymore, cause today she was finally marrying someone who had loved her for years. it was obvious to. the way he looked in his eyes, smiled at her, and surprised her with flowers, when he knew she was down.
I don't know my dad. So Kyle has taken over that role pretty well. I placed on a long tight Aztec dress, straightened my hair and put on minimal eyeliner, but bright red lipstick. I slipped into some heels and wondered down the stairs.
I could finally go up to London and not worry about mum missing Corrie, cause she would have someone to remind her. I know it's been like that for some time, but it was nice to see mum finally settled. All I know is that her and dad weren't married, I wasn't even planned, and if I'm honest there are only 15 years between me and mum.
She was getting married, she asked me a million times if I minded and of course I said I didn't. Even if I did mind, I wouldn't want to spoil her happiness. Anyway I have known Kyle a long time, and I thought they suited each other. I grabbed a purse with my bits and bobs, and headed downstairs.
"Hiya Abbie" smiled Karla; my mums maid of honour. I smiled politely at her, I grabbed a yogurt and poured a glass of apple juice. I drank it quickly as I always hated the taste after I had just brushed my teeth. I also finished the yogurt in super speed time.
"Abbie, I think you need to get going to the church," Karla tried pushing me out the door.
"She's my mum. I am staying to make sure she looks decent." I raised an eyebrow as she shrugged. I may only be an "usher" or someone who just greats people, and she may have been the maid of honour, but she was my mum.
"I'm ready!" my mum shouted, I stood up.
"I'm here!" shouted Andy coming through the door.
"Just in time too uncle." I smiled hugging him.
"How is my favourite niece-" he was cut off by Karla pushing him upstairs.
"No time to loose Andy." Andy mouthed 'I will speak to you later' and made his way up the stairs.
"Don't try and ruin her day. It isn't about you. It's about her." Karla declared.
"I don't know what you problem is with me, but I am happy for this wedding," I guess she wasn't happy with being second best.
"The bride, ladies and gentlemen," Andy said impersonating the vicar. Mum began to walk down the stairs. She wanted me, Karla, Andy and herself all to pick out a dress we thought would look the best. She didn't tell any of us which one she had chosen until today.
When I saw the bottom of the dress I knew which one it was. Andy. He knew everything about mum, although he is my uncle he is still only 5 years older than me, which for some people may be weird, but for us it was normal.
Andy had picked out a dress that was amazing, it was straight and plain, but laced along the collar and shoulders. she looked stunning.
"You look so beautiful mum" I smiled a tear rolled down my face. Me and mum, if you couldn't tell, are very close. For as long as I can remember we had always been there for each other. Especially with the short age gap.
"Thank you darling." I hugged her again.
"I should get going to the church. Don't want Kyle to be stressing out all over the place" we laughed as we knew he was probably doing that already, I hugged mum and Andy, smiled briefly at Karla and left for the church.
*short journey later*
I pulled up to the beautiful church. When I say beautiful I mean... absolutely stunning! The tinted windows, the big doors, I found churches to have loads of personality to them.
"Abbie there you are" Kyle ran to me and took me into a hug.
"Your squishing me" I let out in a breath.
"Sorry Abbie. Just getting, nervous." He looked guilty for a second but a smile shone through. I guess he realised that now I was here, mum wasn't going to bail on him.
Although he was older than mum, he could act like a lost sheep in the crowd of people, he just got lost sometimes.
"Where is Jason?" I asked.
"He text me" he began as we walked into the church, "he said the kids were at their mums last night. So he's picking them up and bringing them. Oh, If it's not much trouble Abbie, can you stay with them this week? They rented a cottage there's going to be 5 of you, is that alright? Your mum, Jason, Liz Andrew and myself are going on a break, get away from you kids!"
"That's fine I will just stay in the cottage with one 19 year old, one 10 year old and 2 7 year old boys and a baby girl." I huffed but smiled.
"Don't be like that, it's only for a week... Maybe 2..." He ran to say hello to some people before I could contest.
I stood at my place saying hello to many of my mums work colleagues and distant family members, who all said things like 'my haven't you grown?' 'you must have boys falling at your feet.' They couldn't be more wrong.
"I think that's them" I grabbed Kyle's jacket and headed to the front of the church. A car sped into the church car park and left skid marks on the floor. The group dashed out it the car. I said hello to the young boys as they came through. Nothing, however anticipated me for this moment.
He was gorgeous. Dark hair, light eyes,
and the perfect amount of stubble to make any girl weak at the knees. Which undeniably I was doing right now. Drooling over some guy I didn't even know.
"Adam! Long time no see" Kyle shook the good looking lads hand, which now I knew his name was Adam.
"You must be the infamous Abbie, looks like we will be seeing a lot of each other over the next two weeks. I hope you can handle us." he winked.
"I'm up to the test" I bit my lip and headed for the front of the church, damn that boys cute.
