"Goodbye charlie and this time I mean it, my lunch break is over. I will call you when I get home" I said trying to end the call between my boyfriend Charlie and I. I needed to get back to work but I didn't want the conversation and our laughter to stop.
"OK fine, but when you call me tonight I am going to have you laughing so hard you will cry, bye Babe."
"Bye"I said and I ended the call, but immediately felt the need to here more of his stories about his niece learning to walk.
My wanting would have to wait a couple of hours and I was assuring myself that I could finish my last day of work, at least for this week.
I put my lunchbox I have had since 8th grand in my backpack that was strapped around the chair in the break room. Then I walked out the brown old-fashioned door that desperately needed a paint job, but if I complained about it they would make me paint it, so i kept my mouth shut.
As I made my way back to my window none of the other employees looked, waved, or even smiled at me as I passed by. All of them were in there mid 50's and I swore they were emotionless human beings with a soul purpous to make young adults feel unqualified for any task.
I sat down, removed the closed sign on my window , and awaited my first customer. There were only 2 windows open at the time and they both had long lines so both of them merged into three smaller lines. Every costumer doesn't want to be there and wants there time here as quick as possible, so on that note I worked quickly doing mostly the same thing, transferring money to peoples accounts.
After what seamed like hundreds of customers and many hours of work, it had only been an hour and a half since my lunch break and finally I had a thirty second break before a middle age man in a light brown trench coat came in and stood before my window.
"Can I help you sir?" I asked trying sound polite and not wanting to leave this prison thats so called work.
"Actually no you can't" he said with blank face, but he squinted his eyes a little.
"Is there a problem? I can have my manager come and speak with you" I said trying to reassure him.
"No that want be necessary, but I do need you to do something for me" He said with a slight grin.
"And that is?" I asked
"First need you to remain calm and put both of your hands the desk so you can't press a button to call for help" he said as his once small grin turned into a devilsih smile.
My eyes began to fill with water as I placed my shaking hands on the table. "Now what?" I questioned trying to remain calm.
"Very slowly put all of the money into the box, but make sure not to make a scene, then give me the box. And thats it, simple and easy." He said in a quiet but stern voice so the people around him wouldn't here his horrible plan.
"What if I-I don't?" I asked with a small stutter.
"Well thats when things would turn ugly" and thats when his smile became even more mischievous. "See in my pocket I have a fully loaded gun and I can shoot anyone I want at any time, but that weight has now fallen onto your shoulders".
I got shivers down my spine and more tears began to fall down my face and I could feel my mascara slowly begin to melt. "OK, I will do it, but please don't hurt me" I whimpered that was a little loud.
"SHUT UP" he whispered harshly to me, which made me jump. "Do as you were told".
I slowly took personal files out of the box next to the safe and set the box down next to the same that was under my desk. Then a risky idea popped into my head, i was bent over under the desk what if very quickly hit the security button under the desk.
"Hurry up, i don't have all day!" he stated angrily.
Screw it I thought and I pressed the button with my back. Moments after they alarms went of and people began to scream.
"FUCK YOU!" he howled at the top of his lungs and he pointed the gun at me.
At that moment time slowed down and my all I could hear was my heavy breathing and my heart beating a thousand times a minute. Then that all changed, I heard the the loudest sound I have ever heard in my entire life, it sounded like a hammer banging on a metal cage but only a thousand times louder. After that everything went black and I was unsure what would happen next.
