It was late one night when I woke up from the sound of someone wincing.
"Harry?" I called out into the darkness of our bedroom. I slid out of the bed, it was my night to use it after all, and slowly made my way through the darkness towards where the noise had come from. My eyes quickly adjusted to the darkness and I was able to see Harry moving things around in his school trunk.
"Go back to sleep, Elizabeth." Harry said, not bothering to look at me. I crossed my arms over my chest and eyed him curiously.
"What are you doing?" I asked Harry as he pulled things out of his school trunk. My trunk had been sent to the Weasley's house at the end of last school year. My stomach turned just thinking back to the events that had happened towards the end.
"I'm seeing what I'll need-" Harry responded.
"I'll help you." I offered instantly.
"No, go back to sleep Eliza-" I rolled my eyes at my brothers stupidity. Did he honestly think I would be able to fall back asleep after having a conversation? Honestly, I was lucky if I could sleep at all recently.
"I just was asleep, Harry. But I'm awake now." I said. All Harry had done since we had arrived at the Dursleys had been telling me to sleep, it was quite annoying at this point.
"Fine-" Harry responded, sounding a bit irritated. He handed me a small rucksack which I took gently in my hands. Inside I saw a few items including a photograph album that Hagrid had given Harry and some clothes. Harry began to flick through some old Daily Prophets. My feet pattered across the wooden floor towards the desk by the window. Faint moonbeams shown onto the desk that showed off the organization of it. Our room was very clean at the moment. It never used to be.
Dear Hermione,
It's very tiring here at the Dursleys. Harry is reading today's Daily Prophet. He won't let me read them very often. Do you happen to have any idea why? Anyway, I hope to see you soon. If you happen to be with Ron or Ginny tell them I can't wait to see them. Harry is irking me. I think it's because both of us have barely left our room. I have nothing to say to the muggles so there is no point in talking to them. I know it is not safe to be sending letters anymore, but I really miss you... and I'm quite bored. If this is intercepted, I would like to tell the interceptor to please let my owl deliver this letter and to mind their own damn business.
-E.P.Hedwig had already come back from hunting for the night and was nestled in her cage comfortably. I gently woke her up and sent my letter off to Hermione. Very few things in my life worked out like I would like them, but I hoped this letter would safely reach her. It wasn't very important but recently I'd been feeling quite lonely and I needed to know someone heard me.
I looked out the window into the street below. No one was awake from the looks of it. That was really no surprise since it was pretty late. I would have checked the time but the clock Harry had repaired back when he was about ten had finally stopped working in late June. It had a good run.
Harry was still reading through things and occasionally mumbling to himself. It was a bit worrisome... and irksome. I walked back over the the bed and sat on the edge of it.
"Hey, Harry?"
"Yes, Eliza."
"You are going to drive yourself mad reading over those things this often." I stated bluntly. Harry cast me a brief look of annoyance which I shrugged off.
"It's fine."
"Are you going to back to sleep eventually?" No response. I sighed before pulling the blankets up to my shoulders. "Consider it." I faced the wall.
