"Gee Dennis when you said you had a chick you really meant you had a chick." David, the tall skinny blonde one said. He looked like a less handsome version of Dennis, but I'd been told by Dennis earlier that he was the only one not related to the Wilson family in the band.
All the boys laughed and hit elbows. "Don't mind them, after all theyre immature. My names Brian." He said, reaching across the table to shake my hand.
"I'm Lana."
Dennis looked at me and smiled, I could tell he was happy about getting the record deal. The sparkle that was always in his eyes was somewhat brighter today.
Over the next 25 minutes of talking with the boys at the dinner table, I was able to partially figure out their personalities.
When with the boys Dennis, usually calm and serene, was more hip and witty than I expected. It seemed every day id see another side of him, and with today came the Dennis that could whip up a comeback in seconds time.
Now, Brian, even though very cool himself, seemed to be the pull of the creativity in the band. As I'd talk to him hed be tapping his fingers on the table, trying to come up with a new melody for a song. He was sort of, the quiet genius.
You could tell Mike cared about the band too, as I talked with the other boys, I'd catch him reveiwing the contract signing, making sure everything was alright. He also was quiet funny, and had many jokes to tell.
Carl seemed closest to Brian, like a baby bird and its mother, Brian and Carl seemed connected at the hip. Carl was chubby, with light brown hair, and a chin somewhat related to dennis's.
And, well, david was the jackass. But, uh, in a good way I suppose.
My father and Mr. wilson came out of the room they were in,both smiling. "Come on, Lana we should be getting home, moms making dinner." he said, fixing his suit.
"Wait, uh Mr. Mercer." Dennis said, standing up from the table. "Could she maybe have dinner with our family? I mean you raised a pretty swell gal, and we really like her company."
I looked at the boys who were nodding their approval and then back at my dad.
"Well, I mean, if its alright with you, Mr. Wilson, and you want to Lana, I guess thats fine." dad said, coughing.
"Why sure," Mr. Wilson started "Mrs. Wilsons making her world famous pot roast!" I nodded too, ran up to my dad, bringing the paperwork with me, and kissed him on the cheek wispering "Thank you."
About an hour later, the house was already wafting with the smell of Audree Wilsons pot roast. The boys, practised while I sat on the couch and watched them play, and I enjoyed it. I would also go in the kitchen periodicly and help Audree with whatever she needed. She was an absolutly swell lady. I saw where the wilson boys got there charm for sure. We made easy conversation, about my life and her life and the boys, and she could tell that i was absolutly stunned by dennis.
She chopped carrots and waved her knife slowly and gently. "Denny is a fine boy, yes he gets into trouble sometimes, and yes the girls are always pulled towards him, but I as his mother beleive if he had the right girl in his life, he'd never let her go." she looked at me slowly and then smiled. "Honey, will you set the table?"

After a horribly filling and delicious mouth watering meal, better than my mother had ever cooked and jello for dessert, the boys and I sat in the livingroom waiting for The Twilight Zone come on. It was friday night after all. At nine both Mr and Mrs wilson were already in bed. It was Dennis, David and I on the couch, Mike, Brian and Carl on the floor. Dennis pulled me close to him every time something freeky came on on the television program.
Everyone in the livingroom was scared. Carl and brian both had there knees pressed against there chests, Mike would look away, casually of course, and David would jump about a feet in the air. After the show, all the other boys stayed up to watch The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, but dennis and i decided to take a walk outside.
We sat at the edge of a ditch at the end of the street talking. "Well, that was fun tonight," I smiled. "You have a lovely family."
Dennis sighed. "Yeah, mostly..."
"Well, gee, what do you mean dennis."
He turned to me, the light from the glowing streetlamp perfectly fell on his face. "Well, my father, hes just, not what he seems to be," He began "He's,well, somewhat abusive. He just gets worked up when he doesnt get what he wants."
Dennis widdled his thumbs and I reached over and put my hand in his. "Gee, youre cold Lana," He said "Take my jacket." He reached over and handed me his plaid snow jacket, putting it over my delicate shoulders.
"Do you know how this ditch got here?" Dennis asked, smirking a bit and lightening up the conversation.
"No, No i dont."
"Well, It was about two, three years ago, David came over with this new chemistry set he got for christmas. Back then," he paused and laughed "And now, well I just didnt dig chemistry you see. So we went over here and I said to David, Wanna blow something up?, and he agreed. So we made our explosive and through it on the ground and this whole peice of land just..." "Poof"
I laughed and looked out realizing the pit seemed almost a mile. "You must have got in trouble!"
"Well, yeah, no allowence for a year." He laughed. He paused slowly. looking down the dark street "Wow, We will be in LA in a week, thats a lot to think about."
"I just, hope you will have enough time for me. You know, once you get famous," I looked at him. "I heard there are a lot of beautiful girls in LA...
" I directed my eyes down.
There was a slow quiet pause where all we could hear was the crickets far away in the distance. He scooted closer to me and put his arms around me, enbracing me in the most meaningful hug I've ever receved. He blew in my ear and then whispered. "Baby, youre not going anywhere." He pulled away from me for a minute and smiled as he looked into my eyes, the street lamp still shining above. "In fact," "Uh, will you be my steady girl?" he looked nervous and I noticed that his hands was shaking.
I smiled, relief flooding back into my body. "Oh boy! Yes!" I yelled suddenly. He Nearly trampled me with his enbrace. He picked me up of the ground and held me in his arms. it was straight out of a movie. We kissed in the middle of the empty street.
"Well, I have to get back home. Its almost 11. Call me." I said.
He kissed me again. "I will. The second i get up tomorrow."
"And tell the boys i said it was nice meeting them and goodnight."
"Goodbye." I said, as I let go of his hands and walked away to the main road.
I ended up hitch hiking and getting a ride from a lovely couple from vermont that picked me up. As i sat in the backseat of their car i smiled out the window while they talked to me. The world seemed much brighter, and happier after today. Everything was better now that I was Dennis's girl.
