I woke up a few weeks later in an empty bed. I reached over towards Louis' side to feel if it was still warm. It was cold. I looked over at the little alarm clock on the nightstand. The bright red numbers said 8:11. It was only 8. The earliest I've known him to wake up on his own accord, without an alarm clock blasting in his ear, or his obnoxiously loud ringtone going off, is around noon.
I drowsily crossed the room and opened the door. I heard low voices coming from the kitchen and was about to walk downstairs when I heard Zayn say, "Play it again, Niall." And I heard strumming begin, followed by humming.
"Play the chorus, Ni. I think I have something." The strumming started again and a soft, delicate voice began,
Diana, let me be the one to, light a fire inside those eyes, you've been lonely-
Another voice, deeper this time, chimed in.
-You don't even know me, but I can hear you crying. -
Now I heard four voices sing in harmony.
-Diana, let me be the one to lift your heart up and save your life, I don't think you even realize-
Now it was just the soft, gentle voice of Louis.
-Baby you've been saving mine...
I almost started crying as the music faded out. "Its not nice to eavesdrop."
I jumped as I turned around to face the source of the voice, Liam. "Holy shit, Liam, you scared me. How long have you been there?"
"A while. I was supposed to make sure you didn't hear the song yet, but you were in some sort of trance, so I just left you." I nodded. "Let's go downstairs, breakfast is waiting for you." I nodded again.
As we walked down the stairs, I turned my head towards him, "For the record, I wasn't exactly eavesdropping, I woke up to find Louis missing, and at this hour, that's nearly impossible, so I got up to see if he was okay, and the music stopped me in my tracks." Liam hummed in response. "You don't have to explain yourself, Princess, it's fine."
"His voice is just so beautiful." I softly whispered, more to myself than to him.
When we got into the living room, I locked eyes with Louis and nodded my head towards the kitchen. He put his notepad down and stood up, following me to the kitchen.
I opened my mouth to start talking before he cut me off, "Not here, let's go outside." I nodded and followed him to our little back patio.
"It's a beautiful song, Louis."
"Do you really like it?" He asked me, pushing a strand of my long, dark brown hair our of my face and tucking it behind my ear. I nodded.
"It's beautiful." I repeated softly, looking down at my hands.
"A beautiful song for a beautiful girl." Louis said, wrapping an arm around my waist, pulling me close "Diana I-" I cut him off by lightly pressing my lips against his. He responded immediately, pulling me closer and tangling one hand in my messy hair.
My hands slowly trailed up his back before one gripped at the hair on the nape of his neck and the other rested on his chest. We stayed like that for awhile before he went to pick me up. I broke away, looking down.
"I know we've kind of had this thing the past few days, but I want to make if official. Will you be my girlfriend?" I smiled widely and nodded.
"I never thought you'd actually get up the courage to ask me." He chuckled nervously.
"Let's get you some breakfast." He suggested, lightly kissing my forehead. I nodded as he intertwined our fingers, leading me in the house.
We sat down in the living room, Louis pulling me to sit on his lap, all four boys watching us. After a moment or two of me eating my buttered roll in silence, Niall cleared his throat and started strumming his guitar again, playing a different tune than earlier.
"You know we support you guys a hundred percent, but this is going to be a mess when the fans find out." Harry said.
"And we'll protect her from that." Louis said, giving me a squeeze.
"I can protect myself."
"I know you can, but our fans can be...intense." Louis responded.
"So what? We hide because your fans are obsessive? I can handle it, Louis. Stop protecting me from literally everything."
"Please don't be angry with me. You've been doing so well and I don't want anything to trigger you right now."
"I promise I will be okay. One day at a time, right?" Louis nodded slowly.
I had no idea how everything was going to play out once the world found out that some nobody from Louis' hometown was dating him. What I did know was that Louis loved me. I knew I had gained four amazing and wonderful friends these past few weeks. I knew that I wasn't responsible for the things my mother and her boyfriends did to me. It didn't matter what the outside world thought about me, as long as I knew I was worth something. The future was brighter now that I've realized my self-worth doesn't rely on other people, and I was grateful to Louis for helping me realize that. No matter what happens, I'm going to be okay.
