Free Fall

At first I was on a hill

and I slowly made my up,

unconscious of what lay ahead.

I found myself on the edge of the cliff

staring down at a deep dark foreboding abyss,

and before I could turn back,

my feet had moved out from under me

and I was falling.

Falling in a bottomless pit.

It would be so easy to simply let go and

let myself encounter whatever relief lay at the bottom

whether it be death or -dare I hope- happiness.

Sadly, I cannot.

I have to keep desperately latching onto the rock walls,

trying to stop form plummeting further.

I must continue to fight a battle that has already been lost.
