The smell of fear

I yawned, opening my eyes. I stretched my limbs as I laid on my back in my bed. Wait a moment. This isn't my room. This isn't my bed.

"ce que l'enfer."

"You really need to stop speaking French. No one can understand you."

I let out a shriek, he scared the living day lights out of me.

"Shhh. You're not meant to be in here."

"Right. désolé." (sorry)

"I'm assuming that means sorry."

"Haha yeah."

I began to sit up, but he shuffled in his chair, obviously uncomfortable.

"What's wrong?"

"Uh, when u changed back... You, ah, didn't have any clothes on.."

"quoi?!" (what?!)

"I'm assuming that means what?"

"Damn right!"

He sat in his chair, obviously uncomfortable.

"I'll, ah, find something for you."

"Think that's a good idea." I replied, wrapping the bed sheets even tighter around my body. It wasn't until his ears turned red as he turned around abruptly that I realised that pulling the bed sheets tighter wasn't such a good idea. I slightly loosened my grip, enough to hide the clear outlines of my body but not so the sheets would fall off.

"Um.. Here this might fit."

Will stood there holding what appeared to be a summer-orange dress that one would wear over a swimming costume, I felt my eyebrows perk up.

"Why do you have that in your dorm?"

His face turned a cherry red, "Um... Well.."

I held my hand up, stopping him from stammering any further, "Never mind, I don't want to know. Just give me the dress and turned around."

Will handed me the dress and turned around. I sat up trying to keep the sheets from falling off my fair body, I slid the dress over my head and wriggled into it. It was a bit tight and shorter than I was use to, but it covered my naked body enough for me to get my dorm room. I stood up,Will still had his back to me, unsure of what to stay, I moved to the door.

"Um, merci." (thank you)

"Oh, ah, no problem."

With that I left, with the weirdest night following close behind me.

.......

Math. Last class of the day. I've had a headache all day. I've been hearing things I shouldn't be able to hear, I've been smelling things I shouldn't be able to smell. This morning, when I went back to my dorm, hidden beneath the smell of lavender oils was some kind of fruity smoke. I feel like I'm going insane. I sat at my desk, staring at the work sheet. Math and reading english, not my best subjects in the world.

"Can someone please assist Miss Valcourt. She appears to be struggling."

Bloody teacher. I hate it when people single me out. I heard a chair scrape against the polished wooden floor boards, I continued to stare at my paper.

"Thank you Mr Devonshire."

Shit. I looked up and saw these deep blue eyes occupying this perfect fair face, coupled with the whitest smile I've ever seen. Then memories of then memories of the night before came flooding back. I forced my eyes back to the work sheet, none of it making sense to me. Will dragged a desk over to me and sat down, he brought his mouth so close to my ear, I could feel his hot breath on my skin.

"Listen, I know some people who might be able to help you with your... issue."

That sparked my interest, "Who?"

"Come with after class and you can meet them."

......

I followed Will out of the room, out of the iron gates, out of the vicinity of the school. It didn't take me long to work out where we were.

"It seems different during the day."

"What does?"

"This street."

"What do you mean?"

"Isn't it the street we were in last night?"

Will stopped in his tracks, "How'd you know that? No one ever remembers places when they've only ever seen them in the dark."

I shrugged, "It smells familiar."

He raised eyebrow, "It smells familiar?"

"Yeah.. It's weird. I can smell you, the guys who attacked me.." voice trailed off.

"What?"

"And blood."

"We aren't far.. Lets go."

Will continued to walk, only faster and there was something else about the ay he was walking. Like, he was worried, or even scared. That's it. He was scared. I could smell it.
