Christine's eyes wandered around the grand church, watching as men and women alike hung extravagant, and one might say vulgar, decorations.

For her wedding.

Tomorrow.

The Vilcomtess chose Saint Augastine's Church of the Righteous for the ceremony, and a banquet would be held on the extensive grounds of the de Changy Manor.

Something touched the small of her back, making her jump.

Christine turned her head to see Raoul staring at her, hand pulled away.

"Oh, I am sorry, darling. You gave me a fright, tis all." She smiled, reassuring him. Raoul offered her a charming, closed lip grin and she took it gladly.

"The rehearsal dinner has been moved to 8:00," he begins.

"So late?" Christine asked, turning fully to him.

Raoul sighed, running a hand absentmindedly though his golden hair.

"We have a slight delay...." He sounded worried, and it frightened Christine.

"What ever is the problem?" She asked him, alarmed, and reaching out to touch his strong forearm.

Raoul's blue gaze fixed on her own brown one.

"Monsieur l'agent JonVal has asked to speak with you and I," he said toneless.

"L'agent?" Christine gasped. "What could the police possibly want with us?"

Raoul swallowed slowly, then gently touched Christine's cheek.

"You do not have to say anything you do not want to, he cannot make you," he assured her, furrowing his brow.

"Raoul, what is it?" Christine begged him, her voice low.

Her childhood friend, and soon to be husband, looked at her with regret.

"He would like to ask us about the Opera Ghost..." Raoul told her.

Christine stumbled backwards, and had to lean against a pew.

"What?" she whispered, panic seizing her heart and throat.

Raoul's eyes flashed in pain and he touched her cheek once more, but Christine recoiled from his gentle touch.

"You promised me..." She said, unable to meet his eyes. "You promised me I would never have to be interrogated by the lawmen!"

"Christine," Raoul said harshly. "I did not want you to, I want to forget what happened at the opera," he forced her to look at him, and his eyes softened. "I will be there with you, I promise."

Christine nodded, and slipped away from him.

"I...I need to be alone," she whispered weakly.

Raoul nodded, his forehead creased in concern.

Christine, quickly as she could, walked out of the beautiful stone cathedral.

Saint Augastine's had a pretty little courtyard west of the crowed street.

Christine walked along the gravel pathway, kicking a stones.

She passed four fountains, seven statues of the Virgin Mary, and five rose bushes before she let herself cry.
