Chapter 7
The Trial Part 1
There is a picture of the courtroom on the side.
“Kiara its time to get up,” my dad called poking his head into the room. I turned over groaning. “Give me another five minutes sleep,” I begged my dad. “Sorry honey but I have left you as late as I could. Its eight-thirty we have to leave in forty-five minutes so we get there on time.”
Five minutes later I was lathering my hair with shampoo. I washed it out and applied conditioner that smelt like strawberries. I scrubbed my body with a face washer making sure to be careful with my broken leg so as not to get water down under the plastic bag and ruin the plaster.
After washing the soap from my body, turned the water off and started dying myself. I grabbed my black slacks and white button up of the vanity and put them over my underwear. I ran my brush through my long hair to get rid of the knots before I pulled it back off my face into a ponytail and secured it with an elastic.
Just as I was finishing my hair there was a knock on the door. “Kiara are you ready its time to go?” my dad asked through the door. “I'm coming,” I said walking to the door. As we walked toward the front foyer we were cut off by a young boy. “Where are you going?” he asked. “Hi Alex, we are going to a meeting,” my dad said. With that the boy ran off.
It only took five minutes to get to the place we were holding the trial. We turned off the main road onto a dirt track. We pulled up in front of a long log building. Inside was set up similar to a court room. At the back of the room there was a long table facing the rest of the room. In front of the table on opposite sides of the room creating a walkway sat two more tables with rows of chairs behind each. All in all it looked a lot like a makeshift court room which I supposed made sense as we were here for a trial.
My dad led me to the table on the right side of the room and into the chair closest to the wall. I sat down on the chair, sat the crutches against the table and looked at the papers in front of me. It looked like the statement I made to Nick when I woke up after Dr Campbell set my leg. Nick sat next to me on the other chair.
My dad waked to a seat at one of the back two tables and sat down on the end of it. Five other people walked to the front tables and sat down with my father. Other people filed into the seats behind me until they were full.
Finally the stray that attacked me was led into the room and to the table on the other side of the room. Nick and someone I had never seen before sat between the stray and I. I looked to the back of the room again at the tables where the alphas sat. One man stood up before saying, “Ok settle down everyone. We are here for the trial of William Chambers.” Another stood up to the left of the first. “William Chambers is on trial for attempted kidnap and the grievous bodily harm of Kiara Marsden daughter to the Alpha of the Central Eastern Pride.”
"We shall start off this trial by hearing the incident from Kiara Marsden," a large man on the left hand side of the table said after rising like the others. "Go ahead child."
Nick led me slowly to a podium that faced both the audience and the other alphas. I swallowed thickly, glancing at the stray that had broken my bones and tried to take me away from my home and pride. I glanced back towards the table alphas at my father who nodded for me to tell everyone what happened.
"I had finally convinced my mother to let me shift and go for a run as long as my brother came with me," I began, swallowing again. "We had raced each other to the creek bit as usual I beat them there. We played around for a while before I became bored so I went off for a run but I hadn't gone very far before I found the scent of an intruder.
