My afterlife was utterly cruel. As if being dead wasn't enough pain, all mythical creatures like myself, were merely left to roam as spirits. I was happy to see my merfolk so joyous yet, it ached knowing they were unable to acknowledge my presence. As a young mermaid,I was often told of the danger my kind endured if seen by a human. As terrifying as that sounded, it only made me curious to get a glimpse. I heard many myths of their peculiar appearance, but the thought of having legs only seemed intriguing. I so deeply desired a taste of life again, I found myself doing the forbidden.

As my spirit moved from the aquatic world to land, I hoped for a possible chance to really live as a human. As I observed human activity, I felt my spirit being conjured by teenagers playing with a Ouija board. As I replied to the call, I found myself in an enclosed room filled only with voice of the male teen asking questions out of ridicule. I responded to each foolish question since I yearned for an exit but saw none. A glowing blue vortex appeared unexpectedly but almost like it heard my desire.I proceeded to enter the vortex and on the other side the teens who conjured me became visible. I stretched out my hand towards the only teen girl amongst the three boys. My hand went through the girl and it felt alive. This was my first and possibly only chance of living a human life. With haste, I possessed the girl afraid my chance was brief.
