One morning, on a cold winter day, 11 year-old Kuroo Tetsurou stepped out of his front door, and began to run to school. He was late. The wind was fast, hard, and chilled him to the bone, but Kuroo was determined. The day before, he had met a young boy named Kenma Kozume. Kuroo and Kenma were polar opposites. Kenma was a shy boy, also of age 11, who was too busy playing video games to really pay attention to anyone. As a result, he had no friends, and was a complete and total introvert. Kuroo was a fun, outgoing boy who was very popular among his classmates (especially the ladies). He never had to worry about being alone, for he always had a gaggle of friends to follow him around. This time however, he asked them to leave him alone so he could get to know his new friend.
Kenma agreed to meet Kuroo at the park before school started so that they could talk a bit before having to go to class. However, Kuroo being Kuroo, had slept in as usual, and was rushing to the front gate. As the gate drew closer and closer into Kuroo's range of vision, he saw a young boy with dark brown hair and pale yellowish eyes begin to enter the school building. He was incredibly small, and had a slight build. He was looking down, and seemed disappointed. It was Kenma. "Kenmaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!" Kuroo called out his name as loud as he could while waving his hand in the hair. Taken aback, Kenma turns to see the face of his friend. Kenma smiles and begins to say something, but suddenly, a look of terror struck his face. "Kuroo, you idiot!" Kuroo stops and looks puzzled at Kenma. He looks to the right to see a truck about 10 feet away from him. He screams, but feels the weight of a small body pushing him towards the other side of the street. Kenma had pushed him out of the way, and saved his life.
Kuroo helps a Kenma up off the ground. Shocked at what just happened, Kuroo is practically motionless until he breaks the awkward silence. "Well..." he said, "that was certainly...an adventure, huh? Thank you, Kenma I-" "You are SUCH an IDIOT!" Kenma gets up and grabs Kuroo's shirt collar. "Do you understand what could have happened to you?! You could be dead right now! Be more careful!" Kenma lets go, and exhales. "Ok?" he asks. Kuroo, trembling with fear, reluctantly nods his head. "Alright, let's go then" Kuroo says, and starts running until he reaches the gate. Kenma follows behind him. When they reach the gate and enter the grounds, Kenma is already looking down at his phone. Meanwhile, Kuroo is surprised to find his teacher run up to them with a very concerned look. She makes sure they're ok, and sends them to the office so that she can call their parents.
Their elementary years went by quickly after that, and Kuroo got into volleyball when they started junior high. Kenma however, was only interested in his video games. Kuroo tried desperately several times to get Kenma to join the volleyball club, before finally succeeding, and Kenma joined. Kenma hated it at first, but gradually came to enjoy it. Then, they began their high school days at Nekoma High School. Kuroo quickly became the team captain after their 3rd year upperclassmen left, and Kenma became the official setter. Things were pretty great. If it weren't for Kuroo's near-death experience, their friendship probably wouldn't be nearly as strong as it is.
