Ash
Ash couldn't even comprehend what had happened. His mind felt numb and crammed to the brim with mixed feelings and emotions as he sat down on the edge of Eve's bed carefully and then lied down, placing a hand on her stomach, feeling the steady rise and fall of her stomach. He then skimmed her pale cheeks and stroked her lush black hair that framed her heart shaped face. He loved her didn't he? He still did right?
A flash of the moment Cadence kissed him flashed across his eyes and for a long while he was blinded. When she first kissed him, his body immediately wanted to reject the invader, but then his mind grew hungry and soon he was kissing her back with the same energy and vigor...And he was ashamed to say that he had enjoyed it. Ash buried his face in Eve's shoulder and began to feel violent sobs rack his body. Usually, he would feel shameful and embarassed of crying, but this time he didn't hide it. Sometimes a man did have to cry. It was the thirst of lust that had droven him. All Cadence had been to him was a close friend and nothing more, but now he wasn't sure at all what to think.
"I'm sorry Eve. I'm sorry." He whispered hoarsely and continued to lay against her shoulder. He still loved Eve, but was it the same as before? Did he feel more of a close guardian than her partner? Ash's eyelids began to droop heavily from fatigue, but he sat up straight and got out of Eve's bed when he heard footsteps coming his way.
Eve's brother, Jack, came in through the doctor with a doctor. "Hey Ash." He rumbled. Ash gave a weary hello and hoped that Jack wouldn't catch his red rimmed eyes.
"It's been awhile." Ash said as he watched the doctor jot down some notes on the clipboard.
Jack nodded. "Yeah. I've been visiting some family and I brought some gifts for her from them." He replied and jestured to the large Macy's bag he held in his left hand. He placed the bag on the table and began laying out cards, multicolored daisies, and teddy bears.
The doctor looked up from his clipboard and said,"She seems alright right now, but again Mr.Winters I remind you that she has extensive damage to her brain and she may not wake up. If she does, life will be even more complicated for her. There is a small chance that she will be okay. I am sorry to be the harbinger of bad news--"
Jack shook his head. "It's alright. You're just doing your job, but I'm still keeping the deadline of October 1st." The doctor gave him a sad look and left the room.
Ash placed his head on his hands. "I'm failing right now Jack. I'm sorry."
Jack walked over and made him sit up. "You did nothing wrong. Just let nature take its course. We can't control fate Ash."
Ash gave a short laugh. "That sounds oddly familiar." Jack gave him a quizzical look and suggested that they should go out and grab dinner. Ash agreed but in doing so by Jack forcing him out the hospital. He was surprised that Jack hadn't questioned his haggard expression.
"Get a change of view." Jack had said.
Change. What a thought.
