I've never been one for a party. Too many people in one space calls for a lot of unneeded attention that I'd rather stay out of. I've had my share of attention throughout the years but now as I'm approaching the peak of my teenage experience, I'm yearning for something a little more far fetched. You'd never have caught the infamous Matt Morris at a party a month ago. Hell, even a couple of days ago. That's best friends for you...they can get you to do just about anything as long as they have the right leverage.
Sitting in the dining room of some random seniors house, was definitely not how I envisioned my Friday night to pan out. But again, friends can get you to do some of the most unimaginable things. What I can say is though, this really puts in perspective just the kind of people I'm dealing with in my life. This whole party consists of baboons who are all pretty ruthless to begin with. Caring for only themselves and disregarding others, comes second nature for them. And I guess then there's me, just longingly sipping on a beer that was handed to me by one of those baboons who, again, doesn't care for my well being.
As I down my second cup of poison, I decide to mingle. Its just me making the best of a bad situation. I see a few people I know, give the friendly nod and I'm on my way. I walk through the massive crowd of dancers and for a second I kind of feel peaceful. As if everything is momentarily pieced perfectly together...that is until someone dowses the front of my shirt with a full cup of Grade A American beer.
"Hey, would you watch it? I was kind of intending to leave this place dry If I could help it." I said while looking down at my now see through white T-shirt.
"Oh my god I'm so so sorry. I'm just really drunk and like my friends and I were on our way to dance and oh I'm so sorry. Do you need help cleaning up?" I look up slightly, and instead of seeing a 6'4 meaty jock, I'm faced with one of the most beautiful girls I've ever seen in my life. Something about her eyes told me that she wasn't like most and I couldn't help but stare.
"Uh, no no it's okay. It's my fault I should have been watching where I was going." I finally said after what felt like 10 minutes.
"no really it's my f-... Hey, do I know you? You look really familiar" she says reassuringly. I was lost. I know I would have recognized her if I had seen her at any point in my life. She really was a sight to see.
"I don't think so. My names Matt"
I reach out to shake her hand signaling that I'm interested in befriending her.
"Nice to meet you, Matt. My names Rowen."
She shakes it softly and gives me a welcoming smile. I can definitely tell she's hammered. Knowing this, I try to quickly find a sly way to ask for her number or where we could meet again when I get friend swooped. Hard.
"Row, come on we're here to dance! To be young! No time for cheesy guys, let's go."
I watched helplessly as she gets dragged away by her friend with the too short shorts. She signals a wave but immediately gets distracted when another song starts playing. I watch as she moves, and I can't help but admire her. She dances as if no one else is watching and to me, that's the best kind of dancing.I've figured that I've had enough of this party scene and I go and try to find my buddy who brought me here in the first place. I spot him over by the keg with some girl that I've never met before.
"Yo, Justin where have you been man?"
I ask casually, trying not to signal that I'm actually heated.
"Hey, Matt. What's up? I've just been hanging out with Rochelle, Rochelle this is my Best buddy, Matt."
I shake her hand politely but she grabs it and pulls me into a passionate hug. We sway back and forth for a few seconds and I give Justin a glance.
"She's really into that hippie-type shit"He whispers. She finally let's go and gives me a soft kiss on the cheek.
"It's sooo nice to meet you finally, Matt. Justin has told me a great deal about you. Are you having fun?"
She asks
"yeah of course. The best time ever."
I lie through my teeth.
"I was actually just about to head out though, justin you Comin'?"
"Oh I'm definitely going to be cumin', man. Just not with you. go on ahead I'll catch up later"
he winks and I graciously take him up on his offer and dip. I've never been one for a party.
