Not a HP vs Twilight thing (sorry) but I just finished reading The Cursed Child and wanted to give my opinions (read as: rant). So, if you haven't read it, I don't advice reading this.
Pros:
1. Scorpius Malfoy. He is a the world's smallest and cutest wonder and deserves to be happy for all his life. I absolutely adored his character, he was dorky, cute, nice and totally belongs in Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw. I don't know why JK put him in Slytherin.
2. Scorbus. C'mon, this ship just sails itself. Scorpius said twice, not once, twice, that if he had to face great danger or spend his life with someone, it would be Albus. He didn't like it twice, not once, twice, when Albus talked to a girl. They hugged for too long a time twice, not once, twice. Scorpius and Rose's relationship was really poorly written so you can fight me on this.
3. Hermione as Minster of Magic. I absolutely loved that part that she became so high in the Ministry rank.
4. "And I'm mildly enjoying it."
5. They didn't murder book Ginny. She was still as badass as ever.
6. Romione. That ship fluff was just too much for my heart.
7. Draco Malfoy. It broke my heart when he said he envied The Golden Trio's friendship and how he was really alone. And he was still a little like an asshole but he was fair and awesome.
8. That fucking 'Always' bomb they dropped in the story out of nowhere. It made me break into sobs. Thanks for that.
Cons:
1. Scorpius/Rose. That ship was just too poorly written and had absolutely no buildup.
2. Ron being reduced to comic relief. He fucking sacrificed himself in his first year, faced his greatest fear, always had Harry's back, cared about Hermione, fought for Hermione etc etc. And JK reduced him to comic relief just because he runs a joke shop.
3. The plot. I couldn't quite wrap my head around it. It was the complete opposite of everything we learned in PoA. This time turner could go back years. And they could actually change the past and come home to different realities, not like in PoA, when everything was fixed and the changes the past self did already affected the future.
4. Not getting to know about a lot of characters. We didn't see or even hear about George, Luna, James, Lily, Victoire, Teddy etc etc.
5. The fact that Cedric became a Death Eater if he was humiliated in public. The boy was willing to give up his trophy to Harry just because it was the right thing to do, he sacrificed himself and he becomes a Death Eater just because he's insulted and mocked a little bit?
6. Minerva McGonagall being insulted.
7. Albus and Scorpius' escape from the Hogwarts train. Like, they discussed climbing out in front of the trolley lady? They also literally climbed out the window in front of trolley lady? Did they not expect her to call someone at least?
8. The "We're the good guys so we're not going to kill anyone" trope. She's Voldemort's daughter, do you not think she could break out of Azkaban? I can't tell you how many times this type of trope has led to thousands of deaths just because they couldn't kill a psycho-killer meglomaniac.
Things I didn't see coming:
1. THE. FUCKING. TROLLEY-LADY. I did not see that coming. She was just a sweet old witch who sold pumpkin pasties to students, I didn't expect SPIKES AND HORNS TO COME OUT OF HER!!
2. Voldemort. Voldemort had a child. I thought he was incapable of love or sexual attraction! Even if he did it for the child, WHY would he want an heir if he thought he was going to immortal! Why would he want competition who could compete with his powers!!
3. The amount of romantic tension between Albus and Scorpius. Like seriously, there's a bromance and then there's a Destiel bromance. And they probably crossed the line of the Destiel bromance when they said they would gladly and pleasurably spend their lives with each other.
4. Delphi being Voldemort's child. I expected Scorpius at first and how he repented and was eventually accepted but I definitely did not see Delphi coming.
5. Harry's behavior in the whole story. I mean, I can completely accept it as canon, when you see how he acted in OoTP, but he just seemed a little too angry. He even insulted McGonogall about not having children. Harry, the kid who could cast a cruciatus curse because of the respect he had for McGonagall, insulted her? It really doesn't seem right to me.
All in all, they butchered half of the plot and character development but it's not a bad read. And I just wish JK had introduced one LGBT+ Queer couple (*cough* Scorbus *cough*) and not make it into a strained completely straight show like some shows I know (I'm looking at you, Supernatural).
