Dear Diary,
University is a big deal.In this place I have met people with different faces. I'm serious o.My roommates say some guys are only fine in the night( na dem sabi, what's my own?) I have met people with different goals. Some people want to make it on every hottest list. Some want to be free from the chains that have previously bound them. Some are in search of God, others excellence, most search for themselves though. Many of us still do not know who we are and what the hell we are doing here.
I have spent a few months and I have cried, laughed, danced, sung and rejoiced. I have learnt bravery, boldness, humour and the complex course that is Idia 101. No jokes o. In Idia 101, the Xs come in different forms, could be for fellowship, friendship, brotherly love, tutorial, wife material and bluntly fun (na una sabi) The Y's are another story they come in different forms. They are afterall known as the most deceptive creatures on earth. They'll tell you they are not ready but they can always spend your money. They don't want to give you a wrong signal but they are with you every single night. And so we have all manner of equations I can't even dream of solving. In truth Queen Idia Hall is my hall of residence and Idia 101 is what goes on at night right outside my hostel. Hopefully you get the gist.
The one thing that never ceases to frustrate me is the humour of most Zik and Indy boys. I said "most" for the sake of the husband materials hidden in the halls. (I await you o jare).I don't get why they derive pleasure in frustrating girls.  I passed Zik hall today and oh God I wished I could shoot someone. They asked me to remove my jacket. It went something like this"sister remove your jacket make we see the thing you carry" They told a girl that she didn't have "yansh" (which means ass by the way). She said quietly"una mama no get yansh" I'm fed up of those guys. They told my friend that she was so black that they used her bathing water to dye their black pants. Who says that?
Should I be laughing or crying? Maybe I'm weird though. Maybe its me that refuses to see it for what it is ;humour. Really though I can laugh "die". I love a good laugh but I hate thinking that maybe the person at the expense of my joke isn't really seeing it as a joke. Think about it. Should you be the only one laughing at your joke? Can we take all the things we dish out?
I mean I can take the usual "sister marry me "or "this girl make sense o" or even "sister smile now u don get belle?"Thats just hilarious but is it always the right time?. Its not just Zik boys, its every guy who sees the need to insult someone in order to be funny. Then again that's just me feel free to make me understand The Mystery that is the humour of Zik and Indy Boys.
You know what else? Its the incompetence that is  majority of Idia porters. (I tire o) Light o, they won't pump water, no light they'll be walking up and down. Complain that your fluorescent is not working , they'll frustrate you. Finally they ask you to pay fine.
Politics in UI; Which school did Obasanjo go sef? Before the election, they call you morning , afternoon and night, they cone in form of brothers, sisters, friends and even suitors. After the election like this, they barely remember your name.
UI lecturers; beware of every smiling lecturer. Tell him his time is up, he'll be smiling, he won't leave until 30 minutes after. Tell him the test is hard, he will smile and pray for you. My story plenty o ,but God willing I'll go into details. I'm a fresher though so forgive me if  I'm telling you what you already know. Feel free to leave behind your tales of UI. Above all though don't think for a minute that I hate my school. I don't ,I see myself becoming stronger than I've ever been. Moreover its really not a bad place.... Till we meet again, I'm Zee......It will get better I promise..........
