I walk down the aisle. I throw out flower petals from my basket. Pink rose petals fall to the ground. My white dress hangs tight around my waist.
That moment was the closest thing I've ever come to love. It was there, close enough for me to grab in my hands, if I let it. I didn't embrace in open arms. No, I pushed it away. I didn't like the feeling. Because, where ever love is, pain follows.
------------
"Eleanor! Eleanor! Where are you? There's a guy over here, with abs!" Hannah screams wasted.
Me? I'm smart. I know my limits. I would never to do anything to even get me tipsy let alone drunk. Hannah on the other hand, not so much. And for the record, my name is not Eleanor.
I look down at my feet. Around my ankle is my favorite anklet from the shores of England. I dip my toe into the water and shiver. I prefer the warmer seas of Florida.
"You look like you need some company," a tall man with dark hair says.
"Trust me, I'm fine. I haven't had anything to drink. I'm not going to break down or anything," I say.
"I didn't expect you to," the man says surprised by my comment.
"Sorry, I'm still getting used to all of this. This as in remembering that not every guy is trying to hook up with easy problematic girls. I'm Elvira," I say.
He laughs and says, "I'm Noah." He sticks out his hand to shake mine. "Elvira. I like it. Is it Spanish, or French?"
"It's either Spanish or Swedish," I explain.
"Well Elvira, I'll leave you alone now. I've probably annoyed you enough already," Noah says with a small genuine smile.
"Not at all, but will I see again?" I ask.
"Let's let fate decide that," Noah says and disappears.
Three days went by without seeing him. It was surprising. Hannah lived in a fairly small town.
"I guess fate was with us and not against us," Noah says behind me.
I turn around, smile, and say,"Ah, the guy from the party who disappears."
"I did not disappear! Maybe you were drunker than I remember," he says jokingly.
"El!" Hannah shouts. "Come on! We have to go shopping! Pier Village is making all their stores have an end of the summer sale! Oh, who is that?"
"Hannah, this is Noah." I introduce.
"No not him. Him. I remember him from the party. I think he was the one got my number, or maybe that was John. Oh well him," she says pointing to a blonde boy who looks around nineteen.
"That's Sammy. I brought him to the party," Noah says.
"El! Come on let's go," Hannah says pulling me away, but stops suddenly when Sammy comes jogging up to us.
"Oh hello girls. I see you met Noah. I'm Sammy," Sammy says walking over to us.
"I'm Elvira and that's Hannah," I explain.
"Well I'm going to distract Hannah for you, Elvira, so you and Noah can talk," Sammy says taking Hannah's hand. She looks like she's about to faint.
