"Oh My Gosh, thank god you're okay. When I couldn't find you outside school I assumed the worst"
"I'm fine, just got really scared and didn't know what to do so I just drove around for a while"
"Rose how could you not go looking for your sister? You are supposed to look out for her you know"
"I know I'm sorry that's one of the reasons I left I was so worried about myself that I didn't think about Jas till I was outside getting in my car. I was so ashamed that I just wanted to be by myself"
"Well I'm glad you at least feel bad about it but it doesn't excuse your behaviour Rose. We always lookout for family and you know that. You have always been the responsible one Rose and carelessly leaving your sister behind makes me reconsider just how responsible you are."
"I.....I.....I'm sorry dad and Jas, I can't believe how badly I let you guys down"
"It's okay Rose I was scared too. I didn't know what was happening and then suddenly the fire alarms came on and everyone was rushing for the door. I eventually got outside to the assembly point and I couldn't see you anywhere. They're still not even sure what happened. The school is a complete mess. All the windows are broken and everything is soaked."
"Yes I imagine it'll be a long and hard rebuilding process"
'Oh no honey with today's technology everything will be rebuilt by the morning ready for you girls to go to school"
"Yay"
"Jas School is not that bad. I remember my days in school. Had some of the..."
"Yeah yeah dad you loved school, I should love school, we get it. I'm going to go up to bed. It's been a long day."
"That is a great idea. I think we could all do with some sleep. C'mon Rose you too"
"Goodnight dad, Goodnight Jas"
I couldn't believe it. That was the first time I had ever lied to my family and it was so easy. I really did want to tell them but I knew dad would think I was crazy and until I knew more I didn't want to tell Jas. What happened today had felt like an earthquake which is crazy cause the government had made sure that they were now impossible something to do with tectonic plates and ice, I don't know I usually tuned out when they talked about that stuff, but I knew what I had felt and couldn't really believe it. For the first time ever I wanted to see the news at school. I need to know what happened today and what the hell was happening to me.
A child cries. Her mother runs to her. The little girl looks at her mother's corpse shot down in front of her. The little girl screams. She tries to run away from the soldiers. They catch up to her fast. I look down at the little girls corpse. Her eyes vacant holes. Blood is everywhere. The blood stains my skin.
