The cool, late summer night air rustled my hair as I stared out at the ocean. Finally a moment of peace. Waves crashed against the rocky shore below me, one of my favorite sounds. The stress of the past week seemed to wash away with the tide as I leaned back on my elbows and stared up at the star spangled night sky.
"Hey, dad. I know you're up there, somewhere..." I sighed and began to ramble on about all the things that had
happened since last Friday. "Nothing new really. Just the usual annoying customers and the 5 books I've finished reading. This week has been pretty boring, to be honest. I mean, I haven't seen Marie at all due to her being on holiday, and the Summer hype has died down quite a bit now that the weather is beginning to grow cooler. But soon the leaves will start changing so you know what that means... Tourists!" I kept my eyes locked on the sky, thinking about Fall, my dad's favorite season.
"I'll probably throw a small party for you around your birthday with mom, uncle James, and a few others. The emotions seem to run a little thick around this time of year, you know?" I tugged dad's plaid jacket tighter to my body and flattened the wrinkles on my picnic blanket. I rose a bottle of his favorite beer, Budweiser, to the sky, despite the fact that I hated the taste.
"To you, dad."
