"I promise I'm never going to grow old!"
"Whatever you say Peter Pan."
"Just watch me. I'm going to stay six when you turn eighty!" Screamed the older boy. The five year old just looked at his friend and giggled. Louis smiled at the younger boy. "When I turn eighty you're going to be eighty one" Harry pointed out. "Nope I'm still going to be six!" Louis shouted. "Louis. Do you promise we'll still be friends when we're eighty?" Harry asked, his voice was filled with nerves as he looked at the older but shorter boy. Harry was always talk and lanky. Even from a young age. He towered over the other kindergartners leading to them laughing at him. Louis had the opposite problem. He was shorter then everyone else. So even at six they all laughed at him. Somehow the boys meet and have become inseparable since. "Harry we'll be friends when we're one thousand years old" Louis replied. Harry smiled at that. Louis always knew what to say. Some said he wasn't that smart. But Harry thought he was the smartest person alive. Well besides his mother. She could add big numbers. Louis grinned at Harry and Harry replied with a shy smile.~two years later~
"Louis your eight. I thought you were going to stay six" Harry noticed. "Shush Harry. I'm still a kid. And that's all that matters. I'm not going to become an adult" Louis replied. To others Louis may have sounded angry. But he was just a sassy kid. "Whatever you say Peter Pan" Harry replied. It was the same reply he gave two years ago. The boys just don't remember it. "I met the coolest kid today Harry. His name is zayn. He's really into art" Louis told the curly haired boy. Harry frowned. He figured Louis would replace him someday. Harry was quiet and shy. Louis was loud and outgoing. Harry was clumsy while Louis was graceful. Louis could do anything. While Harry didn't know how to tie his shoes yet. But he thought it wouldn't be yet. Louis was still short compared to the other kids and Harry knew they still talked about him behind his back. He'd never tell Louis because he hates Seeing the older boy cry. It felt like a stab to the heart. Harry nodded dumbly and listen to Louis go on and on about the tan skinned boy he met earlier that day.
~nine years later~
The two boys didn't even talk anymore. Louis joined the popular crowd in high school. While Harry stayed more on the down low. Sometimes they heard about the other. Like when Louis slept with Eleanor Calder. The dance team captain. Or when Harry came out as bi and was said to be dating Liam Payne. Or when Louis and Eleanor became official. And when Liam and Harry broke up. Harry was on yearbook comity. While Louis was captain of the football team. They're paths rarely crossed unless Harry had to take pictures of Louis or the team for the yearbook. But even then they wouldn't talk. Instead they try to forget of the promise Louis made many years ago that they would stay friends until they turned one thousand. Although now they both know that's not possible. Still they both regret how they're friendship ended.
~flashback~
"I can't wait to go to high school!" Louis exclaimed. Harry nodded from where he sat on Louis bed. "Um Harry can we talk for a moment?" Louis asked. Harry looked up. The older sounded nervous and that scared Harry. "Is everything okay?" Harry asked. "Yeah... It's just. I'm in high school now. And it's kinda lame for me to be friends with someone who's not..." Louis said quietly almost wishing Harry didn't hear. But he did. The younger of the two nodded not even sure what to say. He got up and began to walk out. "but school hasn't started yet. We can be friends until summer is over?" It was a question no doubt. Harry looked at Louis and the older wish he didn't see what he did. Already tears spilled down the boys face. Louis knew it would upset him. But not this much. Louis' heart hurt when seeing his friend- well ex friend like this like this. He almost began to cry as well. But he didn't want Harry to see him hurt too. "I can't be friends still. Knowing in a month you'll dump me like an old sandwich. I get it Louis. I do. I wouldn't wanna hang out with a little kid either. But I have one question. What happened to the boy who didn't wanna grow up. Who wanted to stay young and didn't care I was younger. Where did he go?" Harry asked. He put on a face of stone. Now more angry then sad. "He grew up" Louis whispered, barely audible. "Whatever you say Peter Pan" Harry responded with the same volume. And with that he turned around and walked out. Of Louis room, of the Tomlinson house, of his best friends life. And finally, Louis broke down.
