3rd person P. O. VThe two sisters trudged silently through the forest as the rain pounded against them.
At first glance, you might think they were just two human children trying to find shelter, the older one wrapping an arm around the younger one. If you inspected them closer, however, one would have noticed that the arm was not an arm, but a long, black wing.
They weren't human after all. Instead, they were hybrids, cast out by the human race and hunted for sport.
The eldest one, Topaz, had black feathers that grew from the top of her head down her back, and covered most of her exposed chest and stomach. She wore dark brown trousers and black ballet slippers, since they were the easiest to fly in. Her long tail feathers extended from a slit in the back of her pants. Her arms were replaced with giant raven colored wings that had three talon-like things extending from the end that served as hands.
Her sister was dressed similarly. Instead of black feathers she had tawny feathers, and she wore black leggings and nude ballet slippers.
Both had a pale complexion, but the oldest had pale blue eyes and the youngest had hazel.
They clambered through the forest as the rain beat down on them.
"Topaz," the youngest said.
"What Zara," Topaz snapped.
"I'm tired," she whined.
Topaz sighed, "We really need to keep going, you know we won't be safe until we make it into the protected forests."
"But it's raining and were soaked, and my feet hurt," she complained.
The older female sighed again, "Fine. The next cave I see, we'll stop."
Zara nodded and rested her head against Topaz's torso.
Another twenty minutes went by before Topaz spotted a cave in the side of a mountain. She motioned for Zara to climb onto her back as she began to climb up the mountain.
Topaz dug her sharp talons into cracks in the rocks to keep a steady hold as Zara clung to her back. They soon made it into the cave as the rain was settling down slightly.
They had just begun to lie down when Zara's stomach growled. Loudly.
"I'm hungry," she said.
Topaz groaned, "It's still raining, it will be impossible to hunt since everything will probably be taking shelter like we are.
Zara sighed, and moved to curl up next to her sister. Topaz placed a giant wing protectively over her sister to keep her warm.
Not long after that did Topaz hear the soft snoring coming from her sister.
At this point the rain had stopped. She sighed and put her head down to rest and was on the brink of sleep when she heard screaming.
Her head shot up and strained her ears to see if she would hear it again. She prayed to the gods that it wouldn't happen again, but to no avail. Soon after that came another scream, followed by yelling.
Topaz quickly roused her sister. "We need to leave. Now!"
"We just got here though."
"They found us, we need to leave," Topaz said as she made her way to the mouth of the cave. Zara groaned softly and latched onto Topaz's chest.
They had been forced to leave their home before Zara could properly learn to fly and they haven't had time for lessons since, but Topaz knew that she'd have to learn soon because her sister was almost too heavy to carry.
She spread her giant wings and took off. They had been in the air for not all that long when they heard shouting, and soon after that an arrow whizzed past them.
Topaz cursed and dove to avoid the arrows flying at them. She was doing pretty good at not getting hit when an arrow grazed her side and it began to bleed profusely.
Topaz gasped as she struggled to stay in the air. She knew she was going to fall. She could barely avoid the arrows now and her sight was beginning to swim. She shook her head to try and clear her vision.
She sighed and wrapped her wings around her sister as they fell. She slowly rotated onto her back so she landed first. They crashed through the trees and landed with a thump on the hard ground, knocking the wind out of Topaz.
She just lay there for a second, trying to shake the dizziness. Zara had climbed off of her and was looking around wildly.
Topaz was just about to get up when she heard her sister screaming. She leapt up to her feet to find a bunch of men restraining her sister's wings behind her back. She had tears streaming down her face as she screamed for Topaz.
Fury boiled within her, and she was just about to attack when someone kicked the back of her legs, sending her sprawling onto the ground. She groaned in pain, as her side began to throb even more. She lifted her head and was about to get back up when something large hit her head and she blacked out.
