Halloween Narrative
“Stupid computer! Load! Ugh!” I yelled in frustration at the inanimate object. I had just come home from school on a Friday afternoon and all I wanted to was sit on the computer and chill out. Maybe I’ll update my blog, or write a story. That’s what I’ll do! I will write a story about those kids I became friends with over the summer.
“Ali! Are you coming to Anne’s house with us?” my mom called up the stairs. They were going to her friend’s house for a Halloween party since Halloween is on a Monday. Her daughter was also in eighth grade, but she’s a total snob and just so annoying.
“Sorry Mom! I have, erm, homework. Yeah, really important homework!” I replied. I just really didn’t want to deal with that girl all night.
“Oh, alright. If you need anything just call,” Mom responded.
“I doubt I will,” I muttered to myself.
Finally, I can just be alone and relax. I got some Kool-Aid, my computer, and music playing from my phone. To me, this is a pretty great night. Suddenly, my phone rings. It’s Sarah, my friend from school.
“Hey! What’s up?” I say as I put the phone on speaker so I can continue writing.
“Hi! Where are you?!” she replied. I wonder why she’s asking where I am due to the fact that she knows that I don’t go out, ever.
“I’m home, like usual,” I replied matter-of-factly.
“Do you want to come to a party Prince is throwing at his house? It’ll be fun!” she pledged. I groaned. I just want to stay in bed, not actually go out. Plus, there’s going to be a ton of annoying girls from my grade there.
“Please, Ali! It’ll be fun!” she declared. Wow, she sounded desperate.
“Fine, I guess I’ll go,” I answered.
“Great! Wear a costume and I’ll be at your house in an hour!” Sarah said as she hung up the phone.
Really? A costume? She’s joking right? I have no idea what to wear. I wasn’t even planning on dressing up to take my brother trick or treating this year. I could just draw whiskers on my face and be a cat. No, that’s too main stream. Wait, I can just be a mouse. Duh! I put on my pastel pink jeans and a white t-shirt. Then, I put on a pair of mouse ears from my brother’s school play. Well, that was simple. And now I wait.
“Ali! I’m here!” Sarah chirped outside my house. I really hope I’m not gone for too long. I want to get home and continue this story; I have to be home before my parents are home, which will be around 1 AM because they usually end up staying and helping to clean up, and it was already ten o’clock. I walked outside to find Sarah dressed up as, you’ll never believe it, a cat.
“Wow, how original,” I thought to myself as we walked down front stairs off the porch. I mean, my costume isn’t the most unique on the planet, but I was short on time. Sarah knew what to dress up as.
“So, what time do you think we’ll be home?” I asked.
“I really don’t know. We’re going to have so much fun though!” she replied with a smile. I do hope we have fun. Prince is really cute, but he’d never like me. He’s really popular while I’m kind of just, well, there. I play volleyball and did track, but he only really likes people who are like Sarah, pretty and popular. Those two things are basically what the guys in our school care about. The people who find me really pretty and accept me for who I am are the kids I became friends with over the summer. They don’t really judge anyone because half of them get judged themselves. Except in their school, they’re kind of popular. I really wish I lived in their town, I would definitely fit in more.
