WALKING IN THE MIRACULOUS

Matthew 14:22-33

Jesus Walks on the Water (NIV)

22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, 24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.

25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.

27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

29 “Come,” he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

THE PROBLEM

Ø  Matthew 14:24

§  The boat is far away from the land.

§  The boat is being battered by the waves of the sea.

§  The wind is contrary.

*In Hebrews 4:15, Jesus has experienced everything that we are experiencing right now. He Himself has been tempted in every way. In Matthew 14:24, the “waves of the sea” and the “wind” symbolize problems. Sometimes, we are so far from the blessings of God. Just like in this verse, they are worried because security/protection is in the land and it is far away from them. They can’t find help.

WALKING ON THE WATER

Ø  Matthew 14:26, 29

§  Jesus walked on the sea.

§  Peter stepped out of the boat and walked on the water.

§  Walking on the water is walking in the miraculous.

*Jesus is not affected by the waves of the sea and wind (problems). He is just walking calmly on the sea. He is so relaxed and HE did not panic. We can clearly see that there is no ounce of worry in Jesus. And like Jesus, Peter also was able to walk on the water. How did he walk on the water? He got out of the boat and walked on the water. He had faith! If Peter could walk on the water, we can also do the same. We can also walk in the realm of the miraculous; we can also walk above our problems. Just have faith!

THE POWER OF THE TONGUE

Ø  Matthew 14:29

§  Jesus said, “Come!”

Ø  Proverbs 18:21

§  Life and death are in the power of the tongue.

* In verse 29, when Peter saw Jesus, he was so excited like a child. Completely, he forgot about the situation (the raging seas and wind). When Peter asked Jesus to tell him to come also on the water, Jesus did not say that Peter can’t do it, instead He said, “Come!” Jesus has power. And with that, Peter stepped out of the boat. God has a calling in your life. He envisioned it. Unless we step out of the boat (our comfort zones), we won’t see His plans for us. We need to take action, step out of our boats, and have faith. PETER is a MAN, and JESUS walked on the water as a MAN.
