The summer sun was shining bright in the sky as my brother, Larry Davis, drove me to my first ever job interview. My head was crowded with thoughts: what if I said the wrong thing? what if I hadn't dressed well enough? These were only some of the things running through my head.
I was applying for the assistant job at the Grace & Berry Music Production Limited, otherwise known as GBMP Ltd. The company is world known, and is the most successful Canadian Company ever as well as the second most successful company in North America trailing only two thousand dollars worth behind Microsoft.
I was ecstatic because I have always wanted to meet the two former star singers who run the company, Jake Berry and Alex Grace, and this was my chance. They always seemed like really nice people and they were celebrities! I really enjoyed the music they produced throughout their careers as well as the artists they have made popular through the company.
Have I introduced myself yet? I guess I haven't. My name is Karrie Davis, and I am the little sister of Larry Davis, the world's biggest social media icon on the planet. He is the reason I'm able to apply for this job, as they want people of a higher class to take the position. I prayed I wouldn't blow the interview because there were a lot of people ready to swoop in and take it from me.
When we got there after what seemed like an eternity, I quickly hopped out of the car and started for the building before Larry got a chance to get out. I stopped when I saw all of the paparazzi around the building. My brother may have been a big icon, but I was pretty well protected from the media as I usually went under my mothers maiden name, Jasmine. So when I saw all of the cameras, I immediately turned back and raced to Larry.
"What do we do? There's so many of them!" I asked him frantically.
"We just have to keep your face hidden and we'll be fine," he said calmly.
He was always calm and it was amazing because I never felt frightened when I was with him.
Larry gave me a hoodie to cover myself with. I pulled the hood over my head and kept my face in my hands as Larry guided me to the front entrance. Once we got in, I quickly pulled off the hoodie and fixed my hair. I looked over what I was wearing: black pantyhose underneath a green plaid skirt with a grey long sleeve v neck over the top of a white golf shirt. I wore thin black ray ban glasses and my hair was in a partial braid. I portrayed the role of a nerd so I dressed like one.
My brother and I entered the elevator and headed up to the penthouse floor as that's where the main offices were. When we got there, I was shocked. The beauty of the marble floors and pillars around the foyer caught my eye as the many patterns on them were breathtaking. I was so awestruck that Larry had to drag me to the office.
Now let me tell you one thing, I love music. So when I saw all of the music records on the walls, I was, again, awestruck. Larry went ahead and greeted Jake and Alex before snapping me out of my adoration by hugging me and wishing me good luck.
"I see you like the music we have." Jake said with a chuckle as Larry left and I sat down in a chair opposite of them.
"Yeah. I love all of your music from your own careers as well as the companies music," I said with a smile. This was nerve racking.
"Are you okay?" Alex asked as if she read my mind.
"Yeah, just a little nervous, that's all. You are, after all, my idols," I said while blushing slightly.
We talked for what felt like an hour about music and the jobs criteria. We got along so well that it felt like we had known each other for ages. I was right, they were very nice people. After we finished the interview, they said they would give me a call when they decided whether or not I got the job.
