I endlessly pondered the sensation that came over me the day before. Was I honestly scared that I'd never see a stranger again? No matter how hard I searched, I could not find my answer. I was still at my house getting ready for school, when I heard a blood curdling scream come from the forest behind my house. I immediately stopped what I was doing to find out what was happening. For safety reasons I took to nearest weapon near me and sprinted out the door. I ran as fast as I could in the direction I heard the sound coming from. As I arrived to the edge of the forest, I reluctantly charged forward deeper into the dark abyss. I ran until I saw where the screams were coming from.

The student that had witnessed Shiro's death, Ryuko, was pinned up against a tree with a small pack of rabid dogs surrounding her. I clutched the weapon I had brought tightly in my hands. I had started to attack the dogs before they could attack Ryuko. The weapon I had brought was a baseball bat, it was heavier than most so I thought it'd be best to take along. I used the bat and had knocked a few dogs unconscious. Ryuko was still frightened but I ignored her whimpering. I grabbed her hand and started running away from the dogs, who were just beginning to wake up. I dropped the bat and let go of Ryuko's hand once we were far enough away to let her run on her own. There was a branch in the middle of the dirt path we were running on; I had noticed and avoided it. Ryuko didn't seem to notice it and tripped. I didn't know that she had fallen yet, but after I turned around I saw and ran back to her. At this point I wouldn't be able to catch up to her in time, the dogs would beat me there. Yet, I still ran as fast as I could. Despite not being able to feel pain when my friends died, I somehow felt desperate to save her.

Fear spread throughout my body. I thought to myself, was I going to witness another death? I ran faster than I ever had before, clinging to the remaining strength I had left. Although I did reach her in time, she had twisted her ankle. The dogs were close behind us. I picked her up and ran as fast I could but it wasn't fast enough. I had reached my limit and could no longer keep a distance from the horror that closed in from behind. My speed decreased greatly; I felt my body start to collapse. As I was about to fall, a weight got lifted off of me. At first I was relieved , but then I noticed one of the dogs had ripped Ryuko out of my grasp. I tried with all my might to get up and help her but it was no use. My body was chained to the ground in exhaustion. All I could do at this point was to watch my classmate get torn apart. One of the dogs, foaming at the mouth, sank its teeth into the flesh of her neck. The other dogs slowly tore each of her limbs. As much as I wanted to, I could not move my head to avoid seeing this horrifically torturous sight. While my eyes were glued to this traumatizing scene, a dog began walking over toward me. I thought that I would be next.

A few moments later, I heard a familiar voice that became louder by the second. As the source of the voice came closer, I was able to see who it was. "Rin?" I said quietly. She ran toward me and kicked the dog nearest to me. "Get on your feet and run!" Rin yelled. I got up as fast as I could; we ran out of the forest and away from the dogs, leaving Ryuko behind.
