EPIGRAPH:" Bloom beautifully,
dangerously,
loudly,
bloom softly.
However you need,
just bloom "- Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur
___
SUMMARY:
IN BLOOM is a collection of stories and poems centered on one main theme: womanhood. Here is where I will try to put into words that feeling of dread when you look in the mirror and realize that you don't look like the girl on the TV screen. The too quick pitter-patter of your heart when you wander the streets alone. The gazes full of lust and bad intentions burning the back of your neck. All the shades of brown and beige and bronze our skin can come in.
This is about being a woman through my eyes.
*written in the format of a letter from a mother to her daughter*
___DEDICATION:
To all the mothers and daughters in the world. Remember, you are a force to be reckoned with. To my own Mama, who paved the way for her children and for ensuring that me and my siblings have a comfortable life. To my future daughter(s), who have inspired me to write this in the first place.
And finally, to that little girl with the brown eyes and shy smiles. When did you stop loving yourself? If I could go back, I would've tried harder; for your sake and mine. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I will raise my daughters better.
___NOTA BENE:
wow i had to rewrite this like 20 times?? after a while of working on this project i kind of realized that this isn't just for my future daughter(s), but for all the girls out there who feel lost and confused and sad because of who they are and ?? i cant have that so here we are haha anyways please note that this is all written from my own experiences and problems that i, a privileged teenage girl from Canada, face in today's society (basically don't hate me if this comes off as pretentious or if i write 'basic feminist things' like again this is based on my own understanding of the society i live in)
