It was suffocating. Tao felt like the walls were closing in on him. As if the room was getting smaller and smaller. For the first time in his life Tao was terrified. In his life he has been scared of many things. The Dark, bugs, ghosts but this feeling was something new. Laying on his bed the night before his wedding. Completely helpless. Tomorrow he would be someone's. Tomorrow he would lose control of his own life. He would belong to someone. He would be someone's property. The thought made him shudder. He felt so small, so terrified. As if he were a small child lost in a crowd from his mother. He had no power over the tears that slid from his eyes or the sobs that wrecked through his body just like his life.
The previous week had been painfully slow for the rest. Their youngest was getting married and they couldn't get in contact with him because of his father who forbade Tao from contacting anyone til his marriage. They were worried, frustrated and angry. They were so angry because it was so unfair and so wrong. Even amongst themselves They rarely spoke. But they never strayed too far from each other as if afraid that another one of them would be taken away. The spent most nights of the week at the cousins apartment. And their parents let them. Because they understood, a little if not all, about how it felt. The alphas stayed away from them knowing that it was a sensitive time for them. Though Chen had managed to get into Xiumin's good graces by comforting him like a friend and a support when he had broken down and had been hiding in a store room. They had developed a kind of friendship though Chen had more than that in mind.
Tao turned off his alarm and covered his eyes. He hadn't been able to get a wink of sleep all night. He went to the washroom and took a long bath, rubbing himself over and over again as if trying to wash away the emotions, the hurt, the fear. He dressed in simple clothes and looked in the mirror. He had dark circles under his swollen eyes from crying all night. He was too pale and looked like a corpse. "I am a corpse inside", he though with a bitter smile and made his way to his room. He sat next to his window and gazed outside. Too lost in his own thoughts to notice his mother entering his room or her sitting next to him. She gently stroked his hair. She hated seeing her son this way. This broken and sad. She had tried so hard to convince her husband but it was pointless in the end. She sighed," Honey look at me", she gently cupped her sons face and turned hid face to her and the sadness in his eyes made her want to hide him from the rest of the world and never again let him see the reality of this world. " You know that I love you right?",she caressed his face, she wanted to say so much more but couldn't, she couldn't find the words." If you love me then stop this wedding." His voice held so much hope and it was too pointless so she retracted her hands, and looked down unable to hold his gaze. Tao scoffed, " you say you love me but I don't see it. You're making your sixteen year old son marry someone who he's never talked to and is afraid of. Where is the love in that?", he grabbed both her hand in his and pleaded," please mom please i cant. I can't do this. Please don't make me do this" his voice had cracked several times during the sentence and Mrs Huang's heart had shattered into a billion pieces but she had to be stern so she loosened his hands ,stop up and turned his back to him," Stop thinking these useless thoughts you're getting married today and that it. Get some rest ill send some breakfast for you.You have to get ready in a few hours for the ceremony" her voice was stern and she swiftly walked out of the room before her resolve broke. An angry tear slid down his face but he wiped it away.
The ceremony was held in one of the Wu's hotels. It was grand and decorated magnificently for the occasion. Tao sat in the waiting room all alone. He was all dolled up. The beautician had spent a good hour or so on him. His suit was top class. He looked perfect. But he was a mess inside. He wanted support and he got that when his friends rushed into the waiting room with big smiles and fitting suits. He smiled a broken smile and they all understood so they embraced him and let him shed all his worries. They were there to hold his burdens with him.
