chapter one.The Wheeler's house was quiet, with the exception of dramatic battle cries being let out, periodically as four middle schoolers carried on their anticipated game of Dungeons and Dragons. Hence, the reason why Cindy was there, because Will Byers was there, and since her boyfriend. Will's older brother, Jonathan, was taking the graveyard shift at his job, and it made everyone more comfortable if Will didn't have to go ride home alone. It wasn't a necessity just a reassurance, after all nothing really happened in Hawkins. Maybe that was why it happened that night, the town's luck had ran out.
Cindy had offered up herself, knowing how late some of their games go on. She'd tried to play a game of Dungeons and Dragons once but was disrupted by a severe lack of interest and fleeting sanity. As much as she a how much admired the ease at which they committed themselves to the game and joy they got from it. She just couldn't get into it. Thinking maybe she could get some homework done, she came later to the Wheelers' house and that's how she found herself on Nancy Wheelers bed studying even though she'll most likely still end up with a barely feasible passing grade. Nancy realized that, or maybe her mind was just wandering either way once the two's subject of discussion about the the dreaded schoolwork died out, it somehow surpassed onto boys.
"Wait," Cindy stuck out an hand, and abruptly stopped the music emitting from the headphones of her now half forgotten Walkman. "So does this mean Steve's your boyfriend now?" She asked, her nose beginning to scrunch, in what could only be classified as distaste. After the Wheeler girl had caught her up. Her brain needed a moment to catch up too. While She wouldn't consider them friends but the again there was a lot of people she didn't consider herself friends with. To her, Nancy was a okay person. Steve Harrington on the other hand, he and her were friends for a stint in kindergarten but that was it and it was over once recess ended. Since then she'd really never had enough interaction with to have a opinion on him.
Nancy, shook her head. "No- no, he is not my boyfriend." She said, then frowned to herself. Thinking it over, she looked stumped. "Well, is he my boyfriend?"
Cindy sighed, looking to the helpless girl, then to the pencil in her hand, wishing for an more interesting piece of conversation than the current topic. "Two make out sessions, I don't know, seems pretty serious. " she said, but at the girl's dry look, blew out a puff air. "I don't know, Nance, for me and Jonathan, it took almost what a year and a half? before we kinda, just realized we were dating. I don't really know the protocol."
"And as cute as that is, you've been with others guys. Right?" Cindy slowly nodded. "So did you ever wonder what your relationship status was?"
"Yeah," Cindy nodded. "But, it was more of, do I wanna continue this? So maybe you should ask yourself, do you want Steve to be your boyfriend?"
"Kind of. I guess. Oh, I don't know. That's why I'm asking you, c'mon, don't you have any advice?" Nancy whined in a pleading tone. "You used to be an anxious single teenager once."
Cindy shrugged. "But then I sobered up. " Then she grinned and added. "Romantically, at least."
Nancy groaned, "ugh you're no help." She snapped her fingers together, sitting up. "You know what? I'm just gonna call—" a muffled shout sounded from something in the lower level of the house, and her index finger rose in the air. "After they finish that stupid game." She sighed and fell back onto the pillows. They eventually went back to studying, at least Nancy, did, picking up the previously abandoned papers, she'd written her notes on. Cindy turned on her Walkman back on, using the book she had plucked from the pile, to hide behind, barely focusing on the words, causing the letters she did catch, to look jumbled together.
