Die Serie dreht sich um eine Mädchenclique. Aria Montgomery, Hanna Marin, Spencer Hastings, Emily Fields und Alison Dilaurentis. Nach einer Fünferparty der Mädchen, verschwindet die Anführerin Alison spurlos. 1 Jahr später wird ihre Leiche gefunden. Seidem Ereignis bekommen die vier Mädchen Nachrichten von einer geheimen Person, die sich ,,A" nennt. Im Laufe der Staffeln kommen neue Geheimnisse ans Licht und alte Geheimnisse werden gelüftet.
Ich persönlich fand die ersten zwei Staffeln am Besten. Aber um so mehr Geheimnisse erzählt werden, desto weniger versteht man.
