Hi. My name is Alex. I’m a pretty normal 7th grade girl, or at least I used to be. But the whole normal thing changed in just a few days.

I was at school and my friend, Hailey, came over looking excited. “There’s a secret going around school that there are vampires and werewolves.”

“I’ll keep my eye out for them.” I said. Hailey was known for exaggerating.

“Ok. Bye” and she left. Then I saw one of my friends. He was talking to another guy, and he looked angry so I waited until it was resolved before talking to him. He shoved the other guy and he went smashing through two walls. Then my friend turned and saw me

“Ummm, see you later. ‘Bye” I said and rushed off. That was weird, but maybe he just had a really good karate coach or something. I didn’t see anything else weird that day, so I just went home.

My parents weren’t there, but that was normal. They both traveled a lot, so they were normally gone for several days at a time. I watched TV for a while then made some nachos and went to bed.

At school the next day, I noticed a few strange things. Ok, a lot of strange things. There were swamp monsters, I saw a few people turn into dragons, werewolves, and vampires. There were also people who could turn into cats. Then I accidentally ran into this really annoying guy. “Oops, sorry.” I said. In response, he turned into a dragon and roared.

“Crud” I said.

Then I took off running. In case you didn’t know, things with four legs generally run faster than something with only two legs, me. He was gaining, fast. All the classroom doors were shut and locked. I started banging on every door, but he stupid teachers didn’t seem to notice.

“Open up!” I screamed but no one took any heed.

I kept on running but the dragon was almost upon me. He was only a yard away. Then I saw a girl’s bathroom and ran in. He stopped short and did not follow. Good. The day was almost over. Only about thirty more minutes. After about five minutes, I realized even math class, with the most boring teacher in the world droning on and on about fractions and multiplication, was more entertaining than just standing around in the bathroom. Then I remembered I had my phone. I downloaded a game were you kill werewolves and vampires, just for practice.  I played until the bell rang. Then I rushed to my locker, opened it, grabbed my backpack, and rushed out.

Instead of going home I went to the library. I normally went here after school, so no one would think anything weird was going on.

I used the computers too look up every book about werewolves, vampires, and ghosts. Then I checked them out and went home. I walked by the way. You get used to it. I read them till one in the morning. Most of them were boring romance stories, so I skipped those. But there was one that talked all about weapons, and how to use them to kill monsters. There were also directions to an old house that supposedly held the weapons. I checked the date, and it had only been published last year, and it was its first day in the library.

Then I checked the address and groaned. It was fifteen miles away. That was a lot of walking, because I have to count there and back, with no car, or scooter, or… wait I had a bike. I hadn’t used it in two years, but it probably sill worked. I went to the garage, and found it, and it looked good. The tires were a little flat so I pumped it up. Then I checked my watch 1:30. So I saved the ride for tomorrow. I got up at six and got on my bike and rode to the house. It looked really worn down.

I went inside and just sitting on the table were tons of weapons. Small poisoned spikes, a mini crossbow, ghost hunting equipment, a pack of 100 silver bullets, with a gun right next to it, and a few daggers. I packed it all up into the backpack I had brought and made it back to my house at 7:30. That was good. I still had time to get to my friend’s house, and give them some weapons. I went to the two houses of my best friends. I gave one my ghost hunting equipment, and the other refused and showed me some of her karate moves. I had known she had been taking karate, but I hadn’t known she was that good.
